Strange Fuel Guage Issue *UPDATE*

New '11 GT; Just getting through the first tank of gas. (car is awesome! :nice: ) Yesterday, the gauge was somewhere around 1/4 and the display said 50ish miles to empty.
I went 3/4 of the way around a traffic circle (quick but not crazy). after that the needle dropped to empty, the warning sounded and the display read "3 miles to empty".

I drove 5 miles to the gas station, filled it up and everything's back to normal. I probably should have tried to restart before filling to see if it would come back up to proper reading.

FWIW, the car took 10.8 gallons, so it was a third full.

Anyone else experience this?

TSB

Googled up the TSB if anyone is interested. The symptom for me was exactly as described.

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I couldn't find reference to it on this forum.

Nothing better than having to drop your brand new car off for service. :( Not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things, just annoying (at least it's not ticking).

Typical dealer BS

<long rant>
Had an appointment today to have the fuel issue repaired, so yesterday I ran the fuel down to the point where the gauge dropped. Knowing that there was still 6-7 gallons of fuel in the tank, I figured I'd drive the 15 miles home with the gauge on E so the dealer could see it that way today. 8 miles later the car ran out of fuel in the middle of an interstate cloverleaf. :mad: I had someone drop off a can of fuel and added 4 gallons (BTW, that's a bi*ch with the cap-less fuel filler, 4 gallons in the car, 1 on the ground and your shoes)

Today I bring it to the dealer. I thought the dealer had ordered the part so it would be ready to go, but no. "They have to diagnose before ordering the part from the TSB". So in the 2 weeks I had to wait for an appointment, they couldn't order the part even though my symptoms match the TSB exactly. .:mad: Fine, whatever.

Service manager calls me this afternoon and tells me that they put 25 miles on the car :eek: trying to get the level to drop to the point where the problem is, but it still didn't happen. They flat refuse to replace the part until they can witness the problem themselves. The head mechanic lives 40 miles away so they want my permission to let him take it home tonight. :eek: It's either that or I take the car, wait till it happens again and have it brought in on a wrecker.

After a heated "discussion" I reluctantly agree as I don't have anymore time to waste on this issue. crapola
