Ok, so I am getting ready to prime my Mustang and I wanted to scuff up the paint right? Well the current layer of white looked like it was applied with a roller, so I said why not at least take this one layer off completely... what follows is a bit comical.

Removing the white paint and it's underlying primer revealed a coat or red paint. (and anyone who knows me, knows that I can't stand red cars) ok so that coat had to come off... so I kept sanding and discovered orange paint under it, not primer but actual paint.

Wow now I was curious what lay beneath that, so I kept going and found green, (I am not making this up). Being a bit careless I went through the green paint in a few spots and guess what, there was a layer of white paint under that... Again actual layers of paint, I am not even talking about the layers of primer in between.

Check out the pics, I think it was kinda funny, hours of sanding to simply end up where I started from - color wise anyways.

Remembers me as i was going to repaint my car and i wanted it sanded complete to the metal to be sure there is no sloppy repair anywhere on the sheet metal. 4 layers of paint, primer, kit, it was the horror!

I strongly recommend, if your goal is to get the paint completely down on the whole car, to get a little machine sander with a good vacuum system. 2 complete weekends to work and voila, ready for the revarnish steps....

I'm stopping at the final layer, I am not going down to bare metal, and my $20 dollar 5" electric orbital sander from Harbor Freight is kicking butt, (and it has a dust sock on it) though I have a 60 gallon 220 Volt compressor but waiting on some replacement parts, it's the hard to reach miticulous sections that require hand sanding that kill me, though I learned quickly that no two pieces of sandpaper are created equal, and 3M is the best I have tried so far
