I have 235/60's on 8" Cragers (installed by previous owner). The front right wheel rubs the wheel well on left turns, not much space between wheel and well.

I'm thinking of dropping sizes on the tires, a few questions:

1) What's the largest size of tire i can install without interference from wheel well?

2) Is it ok to leave the rear tires as they are and just drop the size on the front?

3) Right now i have BF Goodrich, any other good tires? Goodyear?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

I would go with something like 215 60 15 front on 15x7 wheels. Thats what I have an it fits perfectly. My car is also lowered an inch in the front. I have 235 60 15 rear on the same wheels. You can keep the 15x8 size for the rear with the slightly wider tires.

Here is mine.

2+2 GT is correct, the back spacing is very critical. On my 65 vert, I'm going with 17"x8" Vintage 48's with a 4-3/4" backspacing. From my research, thats a good fit for that size wheel. I'll be running a 225 tire on the front and a 235 or 245 in the rear depending on what doesn't rub.

my 65 has 17 x 8 in front and 17 x 9 in back same tire size as last dead last. wheels are coys same back spacing. Mine is not lowered but could be lowered inch without rubbing.

IS the 10mm difference between the 225 60 15 and the 215 60 15 on a 15 x7 500 magnum wheel significant? (4.24" back set)

I am set up with manual steering using the power steering box, shelby style steering.

Is the wider 225 nicer looking?

Considering the BF Radial tires in either 225 or 215.

215 60 15's on 7" rims with 4.25 BS will work perfect. 235 60 15's on the rear may rub with a load in the car without rolling the lip. 235 45 x 17's on all four cornes with 4.75 B.S. seem to work with no mods. I run the 215's on my convert and would not go any larger without fear of rubbing and the 235 x 17" are on my fastback and they work perfect.
