can anyone recommend a good car cover for the winter?

I've got a California Car Cover NOAH cover. It was about $200, its UV resistant, waterproof, ice-proof, etc. I bought the cover 6 years ago when I bought my old '95 GT and I now use it on my Bullitt. I don't have a garage bay to use so the car sits out every winter with the cover on it. When I pull the cover off in the spring, its as spotless as when I covered it 3 months before. It is also custom fit for the car with mirror pockets and everything. In fact I covered my car for the winter yesterday :(

I highly recommend it, it's worth every penny.

I don't recommend what I'm currently using to cover mine; about a 1/2 inch layer of ice.

In that case, I wouldn't use a cover. A cover used outdoors has the potential to create problems. First of all it may result in marring the paint and also may result in mold because of snow trapping moisture under the cover.

I've covered my cars through 6 NJ winters and the cars never got marred or scratched and the covers never got any mold or mildew. It's all about taking care of the cover when it's not in use. The car NEVER gets covered unless its washed and waxed. Because of this, the inside of the cover never gets dirty. As soon as I remove the cover, it immediately goes in a garbage bag and gets tied up.

I can't stress enough how important it is to have the car clean before you cover it. My friend Steve has the same cover as I do, and he covers it sometimes when the car is dirty. The inside of his cover looks like crap and his car is full of swirls and light scratches.

Absolutely need the car to be clean before putting on the cover. I never realized that until I bought my cover. My plan was to just cover up my car when I wasn't driving it. I looked at the car, looked at the cover and thought to myself, Hmm, this could be bad if i put it on dirty. Putting a cover on a dirty car is worse than not using a cover. not only is it not protecting, it's damgaing the paint.
