I have 93 cobra wheels. Which I believe are 17x7.5. Looking to get new rear tires and want to put the biggest tires on them. I want maximum contact area, so obviously I'm not going to try to put too big of a tire on there. I have a 245/45/17 on there now, and I'm just wondering if a 255 would work or should I stick with 245?

Also while i'm on the subject of 93 cobra wheels. What can I do to the front so they don't rub when doing a full turn? I'm planning on upgrading front brakes soon, so I would like to consider things that would help it not rub as well as best braking.

I've got 255/45 17's on the back and they fit well, but they do rub if I take a hard corner. just out of curiosity, how did you mount your wheels? Did you use a spacer? My front wheels rub as well, I just sort of ignore it :p

If you want the full tread to maintain good contact with the road, a good rule of thumb is to have the section width of the tire not any more than 2" wider than the wheel width. 7.5" + 2" = 9.5". 9.5" is 241 mm (25.4 mm/in). The first number in the tire size is the section width. So a 245 is about as wide as you'd want to go with a 7.5" wheel while allowing the tread to remain in full contact.

I had Original 93 cobra wheels on my old '89 gt vert. They rubbed at first and then I got my musatng shop to notch out the lowere a-arm to prevent rubbing at full tilt. It is only a small piece so I'm pretty sure there were no issues of less strength or I'm sure the guy wouldn't have done it.

I would sell your original 93 Cobra wheels and buy 3 sets of Replica's. As already mentioned, the wheels are made for the 93 Cobra, and not any other Fox. The 93 Cobra has a wider track. These wheels will stick in more and cause rubbing problems. www.wheelreplicas.com Jeff is a great guy. Give him a call and get the wheels that look IDENTICAL and will have the CORRECT offset and backspacing for a Fox body Mustang (minus the 93 Cobra). I have a set and they fit like a GLOVE!!

If they are original offset 1993 cobra wheels, just buy 1993 cobra front rotors

They are the same rotors, but with a 0.75" taller hat. It's like running a spacer, but much safer. The rotors will work with stock spindles and calipers

Out back, you should use either a 3/4" spacer, or a thbird rear disk setup which pushes the wheels out 3/4" each side
