Got a CUSTOM STEEDA Dyno Tune!!

I put previous posts of my Steeda CAI/SCT X3 results. They were good, but after discussing with Steeda how I thought they would be better, they decided to bring my car in for a custom dyno tune that they could use for future tuning of AT cars. They already have great tunes which have put MT cars over 400 RWHP.

Heres what we got:

Baseline last month (before mods):
RWHP: 342 RWTQ: 306 :curses:

After CAI and Steeda-modified Tune:
RWHP: 370 RWTQ: 340

After Custom Dyno Tune:
RWHP: 385 RWTQ: 360

ALL these were done at equivalent Temps and in 3rd gear to compare apples to apples. When doing a final pull in 4th gear, we got:

RWHP: 382 RWTQ: 376

So if you compare the same-gear tunes, we picked up 43HP (+12.4%) and 54TQ (+17.6%), not to mention the response and firm shifts. We didnt touch the shifts yesterday because we're going to wait till I change the gears in a couple weeks to see how that feels first.

THe first graph is the comparison of the baseline and the final after tune. Not only are the peak numbers impressive, but look at the HUGE gap between runs between 4000 and 5500 RPM :salute:

The second shows a 4th gear comparison of 2 different runs, the second being after a few adjustments.

It's nice to see that a company as big as Steeda takes care of the local guy like me that has spent a lot of money there and plans on spending more (gears, LTs, brakes, etc). They will be using the info from this tune on all future autos, so anyone out there looking for a good CAI and tune, Im sure you wont be disappointed with them.

Enjoy the vids and graphs.

Very Cool! :nice:

Since I haven't purchased the CAI + X3 yet, when I order it from them can I request the "Laser Tunes" on the programmer? :ninja:
Mine is also a 2011 GT /auto.

:D

 they wont know what that means. The laser is from my original membership here with my 94. However, if you tell Todd or Gus "Rob's Auto Tune", theyll know exactly what to do. If you are going to order it, shoot me a PM so I can give Steeda a Head's up.

Thanks Rob! I can't order it quite yet, need to save up a bit first. ;)

Do you think this tune will be loaded "standard" on an X3 ordered for an '11/auto in the future? Also- what effect would the stock exhaust have on the results, maybe -10 hp or so? I haven't decided yet which mufflers to go with yet, probably either the GT500 or the Steeda kit.

Later this year or next I already plan on doing some Steeda suspension upgrades on this, so they'll be hearing from me in the future... :D

Actually, 4th in the automatics are the closest to 1:1.

As for the exhaust, a set of axlebacks are not going to make difference of more than 3 or 4 hp to the wheels, if any at all. But they will turn some heads, just ask Rob.

And when you're ready for that tune, you can tell me you want the "laser tune" I know what your talkin about.:nice:

So to have an auto dynoed it has to be tuned for it?

If you want the car locked in 4th gear to dyno it, you load that tune first. Going by our graph, and what I have found searching around, the lower gear had hardly any difference in power but lower torque...as we went up, the torque increased. For our purposes, we wanted to see our gains, not so much "what is your max HP" so comparing the befores and after mods in the same gear still have us our relative increases, regardless of the hard number.

Todd is trying to break me out of the HP Hangup mode..it's working, because the SOTP feel is awesome...Gus can tell you.

@Ronin: the button is not like the old time O/D off buttons (put a post on that awhile back). It downshifts the car automatically as you approach a stop (as if going down hill) to try to maintain the same RPM (if you slow, the RPM goes down, then car downshifts to bring it back up).

Hope this info helps.

Damn, I just picked up my 2011 CS Vert that I had on order for 3 months, I am glad to see those kind of number from just a CAI and tune. Nice post!

Is it auto? You thinking of the Steeda CAI/Tune?

You cant believe how a car made so nicely to begin with picks up so much with that.

Someone had said the auto sounded like a manual down shifting with the hill asssit on. Does it?

Im sure that was me that posted what you read.

You know if you are driving in third with a MT and you approach a light, you can either coast up or down shift as you approach? Well, with the hill assist on, the AT behaves as if you are downshifting while you approach a stop (or slow down) instead of of coasting up to it. The intention is going down a hill, the downshifting prevents the car from accelerating too fast down hill. On a flat surface and with the Steeda exhaust, it just sounds brutal ! :nice:

Cant wait to get my car. Wish the dealer would let me know a build date.

Hmmm... so, has anyone had an A/T on a road course yet and pushed the lil' button? Would that make it downshift as you brake for a corner and then (maybe) be in the right gear for corner entry-exit?
Inquiring minds want to know...

WHat I described was just how the car feels and how it's behaving. Im not too sure what the computere is sensing and how it makes its decision. IM sure if youre on a road course it will shift up and down, just not sure if it would do it at the times you want. Take a ride in one if you get a chance.
