Hi guys I just wanted to post that after 25 years and 12 different Mustangs I am finally getting a Supercharger at age 40 :) I currently have an 05 black on black 5 speed GT which I just ordered the following for;

1. 550 HP Whipple Supercharger black
from Lethal Performance
2. Whipple 10 Rib Belt Drive System black
from Lethal Performance
3. Custom SCT tune by John Lund
via Lethal Performance
4. Ford Racing Engraved black valve covers (just came out this week)
from CJPony Parts
5. Speed Of Sound Dual A Pillar Pod
from Muscle Mustangs
6. Autometer GS Series Boost/Vacuum Gauge
from Autopartsdealer.com
7. Autometer GS Series Wide Band Air/Fuel Gage
from Autopartsdealer.com
8. Factory Ford Service & Wiring manual
from eBay

Getting my car on the lift today and waiting for all my parts to arrive. My 15 y/o son and I are going to do the install ourselves. I am so excited to say the least!!! If anybody has any tips for me I would appreciate it.

Have fun with the install, take your time. It's a lot of work even for really experienced techs, don't expect it to be done in a day especially if this is your first. Don't listen to the other posts, as long as your tune is done right the stock internals will hold for many many miles of fun driving...... the clutch on the other hand.... well that's a different story. :)

Hey man, congrats on the blower. Once everything is all said and done, you'll have a **** eatin' grin on your face for days on end. :)

Now, is that 550 wheel hp?....or at the motor?

Don't listen to the other posts, as long as your tune is done right the stock internals will hold for many many miles of fun driving......

I'm not arguing that this CAN'T be done on a stock motor, but with that much power (I'm assuming it does the 550 at the wheel), I'd feel like really any type of hard driving or drag racing would kill the internals in no time at all... And if you can't mash the gas w/o worrying if you're going to blow the engine, I don't see the point in doing it. I'm not knocking this guys purchase, I'm REALLY jealous, it sounds like a bad@$$ setup lol I'm just saying to be careful with that much power on the stock block...

Everything I've read on the subject states that 450hp is the max the stock block can safely handle. I've never seen Roush or Saleen run that kind of power without upgrading almost ALL the major components of the drivetrain. I would keep the psi pretty low until someone with more experience than me told me otherwise. BTW, that was 450hp at the flywheel.

I've got 491 at the wheels, which is 565-585 at the motor depending on who you talk to. Stock block and internals running 9.5psi and Air/Fuel at a steady 12 across the range. I've had my blower for a year and have put about 12k miles on it at the strip, road courses, DD'g when I'm not taking the metro, fun and spirited weekend drives ripping up some mountainous back roads, and (sometimes) aggressive street driving. I have not had one issue to this point. No change in demeanor whatsoever...and hopefully (finding some wood to knock on) I won't for a while. Every 3V mustang guy and mustang shop I've talked to said 550whp is the limit.

While I think about it, though...I added my driveshaft after the fact. It only adds maybe a few more to the wheels, but still.

Here's the thing, though: you never really know...ranges from application to application.

Centrifugal blowers build boost over time, so you're not snapping the entire drivetrain at 800rpm, like with a roots-style blower. I get a 3psi spike at 3k.

Anyways, jus' sayin'.

The HP ratings of the blower kits is at the crank not wheels. I'm aware of plenty of cars with different style blower kits in the 500HP range with stock internals with 10's of thousands of miles with no issues such as blown motors or blown rears.

Unless noted differently any performance company is going to advertise crank hp. It's a higher number for one and not everyone understands WHP or that some dyno's read differently than others.

I've been at 509whp (dynojet) on my 9psi kit for about 10,000 miles now. So far the motor is great, the dyno from the day after the install overlays almost perfectly with a dyno done 8,000 miles later. The only thing that's starting to fail is my stock clutch. Bottom line is get a good tune and you shouldn't have a problem until you go way past 500whp unless you abuse the car 24/7. The Lethal guys have a good rep so you should be fine with their setup and tune. I didn't see anything for fuel listed, did the Lethal guys say that you can run that power on the stock fuel pump without a boost-a-pump? I'm sure the kit is coming with at least a new set of injectors.

Jmeo that's a lot of Mustangs ha ha! I'm only on my first Mustang but I skipped straight to the supercharger :D You won't regret it, sounds like you're doing everything right. Glad to see someone else installing it themselves, that should be a lot of fun for you and your son! I installed my Kenne Bell myself, took me about 20 hours without help taking my time. The Whipple kit requires a lot less wiring and modifying than the Kenne Bell so you should be able to finish in a lot less time. Probably closer to half the time, especially with help.

As far as tips just be patient as you go, check off one step at a time. Hopefully Whipple's instructions are as good as Kenne Bell's, if so you'll be fine. I read through the directions before I started the install, made a little shopping list of tools and supplies, and had everything in the garage before I started. Since the Mustang is my only car I wouldn't have been able to just go get something if I forgot it. Make sure you have everything before you start. If you're in the middle of the install and have to leave for a tool or coolant or something dumb like that it'll eat up time and make things frustrating.

You may want to get the gauges installed ahead of time too. Those take a while and when that blower is on you're going to be really tempted to just get on the road and go! Having the gauges is essential to double checking everything and making sure that everything is right before you start driving. When you're ready to go start it up let it idle and get up to operating temp. While it's idling check for air and fluid leaks, listen for any weird/wrong sounds, get used to the new sounds of the bigger injectors and supercharger. Go for a short drive first without boost then come back and shut it down and double check everything one last time. Once you know everything is perfect then you can just head towards the highway and open her up without worrying!

its probably the 550 hp to the crank. relax everyone and stop harassing him. he'll be fine with a good tune. I work on my car with my Dad, when i was 16 and im now 18, and still have a lot of fun working on it with him. both of you will be really happy when youre all finished and your car starts right up and idles perfectly, best feeling in the world.

Hey there. What do you do for a living? Curious, since you're only 18 and all.

Work for my mom a little, go to a community college (first year, full-time). Don't smoke/drink/get into trouble. Live at home, don't have anything else to spend my money on except my car and my Dad and I love cars haha .....not just a little spoiled b***h. But to answer you're first question, i'm working for my Moms Accounting business starting this summer. I'm very, very lucky

Cool. Good luck to ya, fella. :)

You're going to try and push 550hp on the stock block?!

This is Whipple's new version of their twin screw for the 05 Mustang. I will be using a custom tune that is safe to use. The 550 is at the crank. I know it not a matter of of "if" but "when" the engine will suffer but from what I am told it will last a number of years if not severely abused. My car is not my everyday driver, I have a 2010 Harley Davidson F150 as my everyday vehicle. This is my summer, good weather car and am sure I will be fine ;)

I agree :) I have plans for a 6 speed with next years tax return and I find a suitable clutch then. Also a one piece aluminum drive shaft.
