Anyone running a larger than stock cam (preferably a b303)? What is your timing set to? My cam card said 5 degrees advance if I recall.

A few months ago when we did the heads we couldn't get the car started so we moved the timing until it started and left it there...

Today I took her out and she started popping thru the exhaust. So I took the liberty of checking the timing and it was at about 30 degrees

Yea that might cause it. Never posed a problem until we put the new 190 lph fuel pump in. :bang:

So I'm guessing it should be in the 18* range? Going out of town tomorrow so I guess I have to wait to fix it.

Was the cam card referring to the advance of the cam itself? As in, 5 degrees cam advance?

Also, when you checked the timing, did you pull the SPOUT connector out?

I think that refers to degreeing the cam 5 degrees advanced with a cam degree wheel...and not total engine timing.

Could be wrong, but that's how I would read it

It's looking like the B303 has a 5 degree advance built in. I did pull the spout connector out.

How in the heck did it get all the way up to 30* timing????? That's nuts. I'll try backing it down. Didn't work before but...

i know i know old thread

so a few things i want to know...did he ever get it right? and when setting the timing with this cam with a timing light what should it be set at? (with the spout out of course) i dont know if mines right or not but its sittin on 10 degrees without the spout

Base timing at 10* with spout out is ok. If you have a tuner like the TWEECER RT that is where you should set it and then tune through it. if you dont, depending on your build, you can probably advace base timing a little more. Before I got my tweecer rt, my car had the B303 in it when I bought it and no other mods. I set my base at 17* & it ran better & without detinating. I did make sure to keep 93 octane in it all the time though. just be carefull with the advance. maybe just a couple degrees at a time.
