Head Swap Build Thread: And other Improvements

Damn $300 to powder coat...I have probably half that in my upper intake, brackets and alt housing. I did the prep to the upper intake (sanded it to almost the polishing stage) and the coater bead blasted my brackets (I did sand down the casting flash on the brackets).

Had them done at HP Powdercoating

He is local to me but damn I bet it would not cost $150 to ship both ways either.

It's not cheaper to buy an oven and buy all the powder coating stuff. $300 was for the upper and lower about $175 for those and $50 for each bracket. There is not a lot of powder coating places in this area so you have to expect to pay more because of less competition. I stripped the upper down today I'll post pics later

I'll have to send some pics to HP powder coating and then factor in shipping. If its worth it I'll do that.

Here are some pics of the upper I stripped today. Still not completely bare but I can get more off if I need to.

This is after hitting it w/ just the paint stripping wheel.

This is after 3 coats of aircraft stripper and more wheel work and wire brush work.

Did some more stripping today with a better wheel. Could have gotten a little more off but the drill died on me. It was some cheapo no name drill that I just found in the garage, not mine.

What do you have left to get?

Sad to say but this project is going to take a little bit of a set back. Had a chance to get into a really nice house with a one year lease and an option for a rent to own after that ( Has a 2 car garage!!) so the money for the first months rent and security deposit is coming out of the mod fund. I'll get most of it again by this spring but as far as the long tubes, powder coating, mid pipe and few other things under the hood it will get pushed back a little bit. Getting into this house was just more important then keeping the stang project on track. Still hope to have it running by May but wont be as many new parts updates as I was hoping for by this time a few months ago.

i would have done the same. car parts can always wait. priorities!

ha im waiting on all of it. well i have my cam and hes actually sending everything to fordstrokers. so i wont see it till i get the motor. :( right now we bumped in a problem with the compression, so im waiting on Ed to hit me back to decide what were going to do.

I'm going to e-mail him again on monday about how long it will take to get the heads to me. I'm in no rush but I'm just wondering. He told me his stuff takes priority at the CNC machine shop so hopefully the heads wont take to long and then he just has to put the spring kit on them
