I just read a review of the new Boss 302. It had me drooling the whole time. I guess Ford targeted the BMW M3 when developing it. That seems a bit ambitious to me, if only for weight reasons, but the Boss beat the M3's time at Laguna Seca the first day of testing.

I want one just for the appearance, but apparently the performance is up there, too.

What do you guys (and gals) think? Does it live up to the legend?

I attended the Detroit Auto show in January and spent the majority of my time in the "Mustang Alley" area. In addition to having a number of 2012 models on display, including a Boss 302 on a rotating pedestal, they had one on a chassis dyno. About every 40 minutes a crowd would gather and a pro driver would fire that puppy up. The Ford guy announced the driver would take it up to 120mph, using 7,000 rpm as his shift point. That only took it to 4th gear and it appeared to still be pulling strong...

After standing about five feet away from this demo a couple of times I had to go sit down - man, it was way cool. Just can't imagine what it would be like to actually drive that beast on a track. :D

Dang. I've been reading reviews all day. Someday I'll be a real automotive journalist and ford will invite me out to Laguna Seca. One of the reviews said they drove most of the track in 3rd gear. So crazy...
