As much as I do not recommend them to anybody, I HAD to install one in my buddies dads 59 Ranch Wagon. He just had it reupholstered so i had to remove all these new panels and rewire everything to add a amp. The radio was wired to the dual dash speaker but it had Kenwood speakers in the rear the guy did not connect. It sounded like CRAP, honestly. No highs, very midrange-e sound. I added a Phoenix Gold 400 watt 4 ch. amp. It was louder, but still sounded like crap.Still no highs. Added a 9V line driver, better but still crap. Added a EQ, no luck. Cant boost a frequency that wasnt there to begin with. Theres is no way in hell that radio is 220 wats either, couldnt drive the dash speakers. Then the LCD goes out:notnice:

Wired in a Pioneer i had to show the sound difference-amazing.

I hate these radios, now even more.

Glad to know I've made a good decision...

i dont know how many of us are old enough to remember the kryaco stereos from the 70s, but they were junk also. and it sounds like USA has just rebranded the old krayco.

Glad I read this as I was just about to spend a few $100s on a 4 channel amp. Is there anything you can do to these USA-630s to make them sound better? I'm just about ready to put the stock radio back in for looks and add a reciever to the glove box again. I didn't like that set up, but it sounded way better than this junk. Anyone have any other alternatives? All I'm looking for is FM tuner, MP3 and USB. Thanks,

If it's for a '68, you could always buy a second bezel, either one already configured for a DIN unit or to be hacked up for one. My mid-90s unit has green lights that look pretty nice with the stock gauges.

IIRC, on one of the other recent radio threads, someone mentioned a guy who would modify original radios to work with MP3 and USB.

Theres nothing you can do abou the sound. Im taking this radio back and talking to them and see what their answer is.Im sooooo glad i didnt sell this to my buddy...Id probably lose a friend over it.

Anybody see 220 watts in here? I sure as hell dont

Thats really a shame that those guys can't make better radios. I still like the USA66 that looks like a stock radio. As you already know, I have been debating repairing my dash for a retro looking radio. I think I'm just going to keep the DIN Kenwood there.

I've heard very good things about Retrosound Model One. I'm going to get one this spring.

I have a USA in my Convertible and it went to S*** in a few short months. Junk! I have an original radio delete plate in my Fastback and I think its the best sounding of all! Just the rumble of the little Henry making sweet music
