How much can heads be shaved before you have pushrod length issues?

You should be fine, there is a lot of tolerance built into a hydraulic lifter. If nessecary you can get shims for pedistal mount rockers. The bigger concern is with the stock 86 pistons, they have no valve reliefs. Should be ok with stock valvetrain, but if you do a cam swap you might run into issues. But since the heads are off anyway check your P to V.

Thanks! the heads are actually on now. The car seems a little sluggish on the bottom end and I hear some ticking from at least one of the lifters. Was thinking
they may need shims. Didn't have any lifter issues before putting the heads on.
