Hey, new guy here. Thought I would post my new car and first Mustang.
I am sure you all think...ahh boring ...but hey this is my first and has some link to my other project car....my Fairmont.

I could use some ideas of some mods and upgrades.

From a perfomance mod standpoint, you're not going to get much out of that V6 motor, but you can do some suspension improvements which can help with the way a car feels, some rims/tires, and then there is the cosmetic stuff. I personally feel that if you intend to mod with performance in mind, I'd wait on a GT to come your way and start there because it is a much better base upon which to build, but it sounds like you've already got your "go fast" needs covered with the fairmont. My biggest pet peeve however, in the Mustang world, is if a V6 owner starts turning it into a GT clone. That isn't to say don't go after some nice aftermarket gear, but you might get some less than loving responses if you start literally ripping parts out of the GT factory equipment list. Another thing to consider is creature comforts, like a nice clear powerful sound system. Welcome to SN!

I am absolutely blown away by that, and this from the big brake sale thread:

Sounds like a great deal! Better watch out for the haters on here though dude, last week I put a Shelby strut tower brace on my GT (that they only make for GTs no less) and got ridden like the village mule over it. The fact that they come from Baer makes it even better, they make some world class brakes. I'd love to get my hands on that setup down the line.

You do realize that the only reason you got flamed was because of all your V6 bashing? no one else would ever get anything said to them about buying Shelby brakes or whatever. I'm blown away that after having 2 threads locked in a week, you post up more incendiary comments trying to start **** all over again.

I don't think what he said was out of line. It's true, from a performance standpoint, it's easier to get power out of the GT. But he said some suspension and rims would make the car drive nice, a sound system would be great for creature comforts, and he should get some exterior mods to dress up the car. He then welcomed him to SN. He also complimented his Fairmont. I think if you thought this was out of line, you should have PM'd him, not drug other threads into here. It's stuff like THIS that gets threads locked...

And to the OP, as far as mods, if you're into auto-x or anything like that, look into some suspension upgrades and some nice wheels and tires. Should make the car a blast to drive!

Yeah, everybody thinks I'm out to hate on the world in here. I said the truth, and I also said that I can understand why he doesn't need two 400 HP power monsters in his life. In the brakes thread, I said the truth as well, that I got my ass whooped up and down over something completely functional and appropriate for my GT because it said Shelby, and if that was the going sentiment around here, he was in for the same with those brakes. I in fact love those brakes and have been eying them for a long time. If indeed it was just a bunch of douche bags insulting me regardless of if I said I put a shelby brace on my car or I put a Ford Racing CAI or magnaflow mufflers as you claim was the basis for their attack, then I think the onus is on them for picking a fight, not me, because I could have started a thread that said "the sky is blue" and gotten lit up. They came into my non-provoking thread in which I was sharing a score and a nice little car story with the intent of bashing me with nothing to go on except trying to make me feel like shyt. Some even went as far as to attack me personally because I didn't hand the guy more money than he asked for.

If you read all of the threads you mentioned carefully, I didn't start by bashing the V6. I said exactly what I said above, that it was not the best platform to start from with power performance in mind. And I was referencing the 2010 V6 in the thread you are bringing up, AteUp. OTHER members twisted that into an argument about how 2011 V6s were awesome and that my GT was suddenly some kind of piece of crap because ford released the 5.0 motor, along with personal attacks on my profession, personal life, and a slew of other insults. I'm not going to say I didn't retaliate, and I sure did throw one guys car right under the bus, but not after he took a monster truck to mine for no reason. There are quite a few people out there who think "a mustang is a mustang" and can build anything into a road pounding tourqey street beast. Now, I doubt that this guy is one of them however, because he clearly knows his way around a power plant looking at his project car. HOWEVER, he asked about mods with a  next to it, so I'd assume he's looking to give his car some giddy-up. Since the 05-09 V6 motor isn't much to talk about, I pointed him in the few directions where there might be some gains to have with his car, rather than dumping money down the drain with a cold air intake, upgraded exhaust, tunes, etc...which all revolve around that motor. Upping his suspension, brakes, wheels, and tires can all improve that cars potential without tossing money away. If he starts asking about power, well, all I can say is that the V6 will hold him back, therefore he might consider a V8, and the last time Ford released a Mustang V8 not attached to the GT nameplate was the '93LX 5.0, so yeah, I'm gonna respond with "you might want to consider starting with a GT." Somehow I don't see that coming, nor do I expect him to be disillusioned into thinking he can make that V6 hang with his fairmont on the dyno because he clearly has experience with cars. He did, however, state that this was his first Mustang, so I'd like to start him on the right path. The guy clearly knows what he has on his hands, even he said we'd probably be thinking "boring."

Now I said nothing different to this guy than I did to the others, and I don't seem him snapping back out of some napoleonic wounded pride position. I told the guy in that other thread the EXACT same advice, that if he was looking to mod for performance, he was starting behind the 8 ball, but if he just wants a nice ride then go for it, but beware making a GT clone. I'd say the same thing to a GT guy going "I want it to look just like a current super snake" and warn him to get a flame suit to go with this Fobra badges. That guy clearly stated he wanted GT factory Brembo wheels which he then bought, and that his next move was likely dual exhaust, which requires a GT rear fascia and is a GT style hallmark. Sounds like the start of a GT clone to me. He better get used to the phrase "no, it's not." Some people have decided that means because I have styled my car after the 1970 Boss 302, a car I have never even seen in person, let alone have a chance to own, that I must be posing be cause ONE YEAR LATER than I started modding my car in that fashion, Ford decided to release a car under the Boss nameplate that, IMO, looks less like the classic than mine does. I never said I was building a 2012 Boss clone, I am building a heritage inspired Mustang GT that looks nothing like it. But, the immaturity level has skyrocketed around here, and people are apparently just itching for a fight. I don't remember even a 100th of the attitude and bickering back when I was in the fox 5.0 and 4.6 new edge forums, and honestly it's giving this whole S197 crowd a bad rep in my book, which isn't fair to the regular, reasonable guys posting in here.

Oh, and AteUp, for a guy worried about incendiary comments, you sure do a nice job fanning the flames. I'm not trying to start any crap up again, I am responding to the original poster. The answers haven't changed in the last 7 years in response to that motor package, somehow I don't think they've changed in the last week, so I guess I will continue responding to new V6 owners asking about modding up their vehicle in the same way as I did in here.

That's a whole lotta talkin' you did there. I'll quote Shakespeare and say, "Thou dost protest too much." You seem to be spending an awful lot of time defending yourself. Just mellow out a little and maybe people wouldn't treat you so harshly.

Here's another quote for you:

OK then ! ................................

I never have built a car to look like or to clone another .....I know a V6 is limited on power...as any engine. I know there is turbos...exhaust....tuning....suspension upgrades and cosmetics I can do. I just like to hear anyones input and or ideas, it sparks up more ideas for me.
I have to say, I have a lot to learn about this Mustang.....it sure is not a Fox chassis. So , yes I will ask some dumb questions and be wrong time to time.
I should add, this is a daily driver, MPG is top priority for this car ...for now. But I like the idea of cosmetic, and mild tunning and engine mods. I will make this one unique in its own way...as probly we all would like that.
I am brewing up some ideas already, but would like to learn about the best products and what to stay away from in all aspects.

Thank you all for your input, your complements, and thoughts. No harm done.

1st of let me say the Fairmont is awesome! I remember waaaaaaaaaaaay back when Vinnie "The Hitman" Kung formerly from MM&FF (an old friend of mine) decided he wanted to to drop a Vortech powered 347 into an '86 2 door Granada he was laughed at but I was there when he started it up for the 1st time...... nobody was laughing.
As for your V-6 Mustang being it's a DD I wouldn't mod it outside maybe some cosmetics. My ideas for that Mustang is put any and all spare money aside and when it's time to go from DD to project car in a few years I would try and find an Ecoboost V6 and trans from an F-150 and stuff that in there. Thoughts?

There's an idea... Another plus is any cosmetics (outside of paint on said cosmetics), suspension, wheels, creature comforts could follow you into a different car should you continue with the same chassis platform. Anything you do power-wise will probably start to bring down MPG, so you should probably take a look at some packaged suspension kits like those offered by Steeda, Roush, etc, because they're already a tuned package all made to work together, and that extra handling might make the car feel a bit more stout without getting into efficiency.

Thanks guys, ya this v6 will not change for a long time.....tho I thought about if I could find one of the new v6's in the '11 Stangs....that would be cool. But as for keeping this car long term or this chassis...hell ya. This was way cheaper then spending big bucks for a v8 car or newer. I will be able to save cash and do a lot more sooner with this one.
As for details on what I will do with this car...none yet. I am in no hurry.
The Fairmont, its an on going build as well. It has some changes yet to come and others that need to be finished. It does handle much better then my '05 Stang, but mpg....not quite there. I do get a lot of people who say " Why a Fairmont " ..I say," Why not ". I like it is unique and that not many people see them around let alone customized.
So, this V6 Stang will be unique and different. I have access to a lot of materials and tooling to do some customizing. I have knowledge on body work and painting, mechanic skills, and fabrication skills.
This site seems to have a lot talent here and info, this great for some one like me.

Every once in a while, like with your fairmont, you just gotta do something different. The fact that you come out with a really polished final product is the best reward, because most people would have told you it can't be done. I don't know if you'd be able to drop an '11 V6 in your car, it might be a dramatically different combo and require new wiring, etc, but hell, anything can be done nowadays if the checkbook backing the project is big enough.

you should do some suspension work: lowering springs, shocks/struts, and possibly lower rear control arms if you wanted. some wheels and tires definently, i personally think the 07-09 GT500 wheels in black would look nice on your car lowered. Then you could do a cat-back, mid pipe and headers even if you wanted. Then a CAI/tune for the engine. I'd stick to mostly cosmetic stuff though

Sounds about what I would do for performance upgrades, the cosmetic stuff...that will be the real thought process. The '11 v6 really cant be that big a deal....same car still all in all. Not like what I did in my Fairmont...from a 200 inline six banger to a 351w that was never an option for it. But this idea of swapping v6's is something I would do way down the road.
