Newbie Exhaust question

Just bought a 2007 GT at 48 years old. Had a 1968 coupe while in high school in 1980-81......still dream about that damned car.

Anyway, have searched thru more exhaust threads than I want to admit, and listened to more vids than I can count.

So here's the question: Has anybody ever put on long tube headers with off road H pipes, but kept the stock mufflers?

So many of the exhaust videos I listen to do not sound like the old muscle car sound I am looking for. Would like a rumble, deeper, but only a little louder than stock. A lot of these pipes sound like a pissed off cat. And...I do not want any drone.

Any recommendations most welcome.

TIA,

Tim

I bet that combo would work. I also hear the Corsa exhaust has no drone, but is very expensive. Definitely keep the H-pipe for the old school sound. Another option could be to find a Bullit exhaust, or copy one. They had a resticted H-pipe (imagine a washer welded in the middle) to help copy the sound from the '68 in the movie.

Also, instead of switching exhaust a bunch of times (if you have some unwanted drone), just put some dynamat or equivalent in the trunk and under the rear seat. It'll kill a lot of the low frequency vibrations as it was developed to help with vibration from subwoofers.

Welcome back to a fun car. Hopefully, you'll only have good dreams about keeping/driving this one!

I was the same way. Just installed an SLP Loudmouth axle back kit....and I can't imagine doing anything more to the exhaust, it sounds SO good and SO loud. VERY impressed at the difference.
