I need some honest advice for T5

Power doesnt matter when it comes to the shifter, its how hard you pull the lever. I bent my shift fork when the transmission was behind a stock 5.0 hitting second leaving my house. Treat it nice when you shift and it will return the favor.

I'm pretty gentle, but will probably go ahead and put a shifter with stops on it...anyone have a good shifter to recommend? Whatever shifter it is, I want to put that retro 67 lever on it for that factory look (and i like how far back it comes so I can keep my seat to shift)

I have a B&M Ripper which i like, but the Pro 5.0 is "self centering" for easier 2nd to 3rd gear shifts.

One more question, do you have to have the shifter installed before you put it in the car? I have read threads where they say you can't put it in with the shifter out of the car.

In my 65 I dont need to pull the transmission but I have to drop the tail of it to get to all 4 bolts, then I can finesse it up thru the hole in the tunnel. If you have no issues with changing the size of the hole in your cars floor it would be easily accessable from inside the car.

Ok, got my transmission in and i'm a little miffed....i Id'd the tag and it is from a 1992 2.3 liter world class....the input pilot shaft is smaller than the 5.0 motors, the gearing is different, and the torque rating is 60 lb lower....has anyone ever used one of these behind a 5.0? Why is the torque rating lower, because of the smaller input shaft or because of the bigger first gear? (3.97 first- .79 final)

I have also been reading that its super simple to replace the input shaft....anyone done this? I found a wc v8 input shaft for 70 bucks....can i just fix this when I put a new bearing retainer in? The difference in the gears don't bother me that much, just means I can leave my little 2.79 gears in the back of the car.

Robbz28,
TAKE/SEND it back and tell them it was NOT what you asked for!:notnice: Be polite, but be FIRM! Remind them that you told them it was going behind a V8/5.0 (you did tell them that, didn't you?) and that even though you may be able to bolt it up, it will not work for your application. If it was shipped to you and they aren't willing to help cover part of the shipping and to help make it right for you (within reason) DEMAND a full refund even if you have to eat some/all of the shipping. If they'll work with you, or if you have to go elsewhere, insist on a tag number BEFORE handing over any $$$. There are enough things to be changed out to make this one acceptable for you that it is simply not cost effective, even compared to eating some shipping $$. You likely wouldn't be able to get 1/2 what you paid selling it outright. I'm sad to hear about you getting hosed.:( I've received my share of fork jobs and it ain't fun!
Keep Your Chin Up,
Gene

Well, I read countless other threads last night, seems all I need to make this one work is a special pilot bearing (easily procured at any autozone) and the transmission should bolt right up, but its weaker (or so that's what everyone says). Of all of the guys with 4 cyl t5's behind their V8, they say they have had no problems with it. I don't know, if the guy will take the tranny back and do an exchange, then that's what I want, but if he will give me a couple hundred bucks back then that might be OK, just mad, yesterday was not a good day for reasons other than the transmission, that was just a cherry on top.

UPDATE....the plot thickens, I called the guy, he told me there was NO WAY that was a 4cyl tranny and he told me to measure the input shaft. I had my bro procure a dial caliper and measured it and low and behold it is was .668 (the 5.0 diameter). He told me that transmission should be a 208, not a 209...I have the tag that says 209 in my hand. Its just a mystery, but he assures me he pulled it out of a 92 mustang 5.0 and will stand behind it, so were good to go...Is there any other place I can look on the tranny for a number that would confirm that this is a 208 and not a 209?

Ok, i have no clue if anyone is even reading this, lol, but as I get info I post it, so I get home today, decide to measure the input shaft myself and turns out my bro dont know how to read a dial caliper...it is .59, and the tag still says 209, for good measure I spun the tranny in 1st and the input went around 4 times to the tailshaft 1 (making that 3.90 or whatever first gear that is in 4 banger trannys), so this is definately a 4 cylinder tranny. I talked to the guy and he said if it was a 4 cyl he would make good on it, lets just see about that...

Just another update for those who care, the guy is making good, he arranged pickup of the transmission and will swap it for the proper one....he had no explanation for what happend, I offerd him the explanation of S**T happens....and I understand, just glad he is making good on it, I will re-post when I get my new one in.

Well i finally got my replacement transmission in, so far so good. Its a 199 on the tag which suggests 90-91 v8 world class with the proper sized input shaft, it shifts good (in the box) and all seems to be there and accounted for. Anyway, I will repost whenever I get it in...may be a month, may be a year, but the guy ended up doing good on the deal.

Glad to hear the guy wasn't a no good 'shiftless' dirtbag. :nice:
