Top 10 dumbest things I've done to my car

Most of you guys know i can an arrogant a-hole sometimes, but i do speak from mostly experience.
I like some of you guys like to learn the hard way.
So i figured i'd share some of the bad things i've done, to prove i'm human too.
Just remember i've had this car since 93/94

Some of the idiotic things i've tried are:
lol Not bad. Like you said, all of that is experience gained.

I can't come up with 10 off the top of my head but 5 things always come to mind:

- (clutchless) Flex Fan - Noisey as all hell and constructed with the sharpest metal fan blades I've ever seen.
- March "Ram Air" - "Street Sweeper"
- Driving around town with a shortbelt (smog/power steering bypass)
- Buying a 750cfm double-pump Holley for my BONE STOCK '85 GT (this one goes way back to '88 when I had no clue)
- Another oldie: mounted up two mini spare tires on the rear of my '85GT. Fun times. :D

Found a picture. It happened Christmas Eve 2004. Worst Christmas ever. That was a brand new Cervini's Cobra bumper too.

How about installing an aftermarket radio and then having the new face plate SCREWED into the dash? So dumb. Now that I go to put the stock radio back, I got four ugly holes showing. Awesome.

Or my chrome engine BC it 'looks cool'. Yeah, never again. It looks sweet, about the two times you actually show it. But sucks cleaning it all the time. That was probs my biggest mistake.

Some of the idiotic things i've tried are:

1. Removing the back seats, god is this stupid and pointless, besides, no matter what you do, it never looks right.
2. Removing the A/C, just as dumb and stupid as removing the back seats.
3. Southside Bars, as if solid bearings had enough give to not tear the god damn torque boxes out.
4. Drag springs, ya their great and all at the track, but if you like to go around turns at more than 10mph, they blow.
5. Nitrous, what a waste of money that was.
6. Billet interior accessories, i guess that was my ghetto phase.
7. Custom cam based strictly on making the most peak power, at all costs (my choice), ya made about 340rwhp on a stock shortblock, but was a mother F'er to drive in traffic.
8. The use of any mac product, why it took 3 different failures to learn my lesson, who the hell knows.
9. Removing my rear seatbelts, torx bit kept breaking so i cut the heads off. Doh, had to burn that out when i figured out that i had to put it back together.
10. Putting capped lug nuts on the 3 inch cold hardened studs on my moser axles, studs backed out and tore the hell of my rear drum brakes as soon as i backed up.

Other things i consider dumb, are converting Efi cars to carbs, and removing the power steering.
I considered the PS delete, then drove a car without it in a parking lot.

1, agree unless for a road race car with a stripped interior

2, meh, AC for the family hauler...i couldn't drive the stang with the windows
up and not get to hear the awesome exhaust

3, meh, battle boxes ftw

4, eh, depends on the purpose of the car

5, cheap initially, expensive in the long run. Again, depends on the car. If it's
a drag only car, nitrous is a good investment but not so much for a street car

6, yeah i can do without the billet unless it's a shift knob or pedals

7, a good custom cam will do more than just make peak power

8, you get what you pay for, and for what you pay for Mac products, you get decent quality. Their mufflers sound sick...headers, eh not the best but ok for a budget. They've done me good for 8 years

9, yeah that was stupid

10, see # 9

Oh and the '57 would be awesome painted black. Gassers are BA.

Honestly, i don't know how you hardtop guys without AC do it.
When i was younger and lighter (me not the car) i could see tolerating no AC, but 90 degrees and high humidity now, forget it. Last thing i want to do is go for a ride and come back sweaty.

Yeah...it's a love hate thing. I hate the heat too...it really brings me down when it's beautiful outside but really humid and hot, but i just can't stand driving with windows up even in the winter...i feel confined. I just love how the car sounds with the windows down..you can hear the engine and exhaust and everything so good. My car really hits on all the senses except taste (unless i'm feeling frisky lol).

Mine would be ac. The 35 pounds I saved didn't make my car the vette smoker I thought it would. I was still slow....but now had a case of sweaty ball syndrome

It's going back in

good list. i havent done many stupid things with my car, i think long and hard before i do anything, or spend any money on things. i have allot of billet in my interior, but i like it, i think it contrasts with black very well. i cant stand the billet stuff around the ac knobs though, i like the billet knobs on the black backing.

i took out my sunroof strap and bag once, and ended up putting it back in.

one time i spilled a red bull between my center console and passenger seat and got pissed and took my whole interior out to clean the carpet top and bottom. i dont regret that i did that, but i regret thinking that the ebrake and pass. seat as a cupholder would hold a thin red bull in place.

Good list. I have done none of those except bought mac products. They have served me just as well as any other brand I have bought. I now only have a Mac 70 mm throttle body, but I would be willing to put money down that there isn't any other TB that would yield me anything more...

my thing was removed my ac.. i lived in cali used it like 2 times a year...moved to az...wow regret it. cant put it on would have to hack newly painted firewall...nope.. 2 had same thing done put a remote starter on stang with t5......left it in gear a few times it was scary...no damage though just small cracks on paint hardly noticable...
