Lug nut stud install

I have a 92 mustang 4 lug, and I broke 2 lug nut studs and got them out, now I am having trouble installing the new ones. I tried putting the lug nut on w a few washers on the stud and tighten them as much as I could, but it still seemed like it needed to pull through more. any suggestions?

This was as much as I was able to pull it through.

A heavy duty air hammer works well. I am not talking about the cheapo short stroke stuff, but an industrial quality long stroke Sioux or Chicago Pneumatic unit. Otherwise, use washers and lots of lube on the stud and threads and go at it with a heavy duty impact wrench.

I always use a block of wood with a hole drilled in it and put the rotor face down with the stud inside the hole... then use a large drift and hammer to pound them in one at a time from the back side.

I use this method with the rotors and the axles... works like a charm... just don't let it get off level on the block of wood or you could distort the rotor.

For the hundreds of them I've install I have never used a press. Impact gun, washers, some front end grease and a open topped scrapper lug nut. Tighten till it sets.

I had took the rotor to the machine shop, and they told me the studs were to big? So I went to Napa and my rotor is off a 4cyl mustang!! The studs are slightly smaller than the 5.0s so I damaged the rotor. Thats why I was having such a hard time pulling the studs through!! I guess the previous owner installed these for whatever reason!! That gave me such a headache! Ill be buying a new rotor now because the studs just fall out of the rotor. Thanks for the help though, I was wondering why I was having such a hard time and you guys were doing it with such ease lol!!
