I remember flipping through old 5.0 Mustang and MM&FF magazines and seeing these heads for sale. I think they started off at 695.00 per set. Now I decided to check them out on the web and went to this link: Power Heads - Performance Engineering

almost 900 bucks for a pair of stockish iron heads??! Unbelievable. Don't these people know that you can get some pretty nice aluminum heads nowadays for just a few more bucks? Hell a pair of Edelbrock E streets can be had for a mere 939.00 give or take a few $.

I thought these guys were all about saving some cash.

Wow did i read that right? That 900 bucks is if you send them your stock heads, a 200 dollar core charge will other wise be added. So that brings it up to 1100 for a pair of ported stocks. And in there shortblocks its $2850 for a 351w. You can buy a 408 from chp for $2662?

For starters those are far from "stockish" heads.
Larger valves, CNC ported, valve springs for .530" lift cams, etc.
I remember looking at their heads 9 years ago and they were $695 then and stayed that price up until a about year or so ago.
I imagine that they have gone up in price since then.
Used be a guy with the username Thumper doing some similar things with stock E7TE heads too.
I bet you can't get Thumper heads for $695 today either.

Back in 2004 I was lucky enough to be in the market for heads when FRPP were removing all the Y303 aluminum heads from longblocks to put the then new Z-heads on them.
They called them take-off heads. Since they were bolted down they couldn't sell them as new heads.
$724/pair to my door! Back then I was comparing the Power and Thumper $695 heads to these Y303 aluminum take-off heads and couldn't resist the great deal.
Yeah, they are the lowest performing aluminum head you could buy but they work very well for me.

nope, thumper still charging the same as he has for many years: Thumper of Orange Park

I know CNC machines cost $$, but no way in hell in this economy I'm paying 900 bucks for a set of reworked stock iron heads when I can get some Edelbrock aluminums for 40 bucks more! That's a bunch of weight off the nose of my car and the benefits of an aluminum head.

Thumper heads aren't a bad deal. Honestly that's about what a machinest would charge you to rebuild heads back to stock. E-streets are garbage. You need to replace a bunch of valve train parts on them as soon as you get them.

So Edelbrock tries to fight off the Chinese knock offs and ends up with the same garbage they're trying to discredit! Classic! At least some Americans got a paycheck because of the E street heads, so I guess it's a better deal.

Yeah, that's what someone was saying on Corral. Edelbrock built the E-streets specifically to compete with Chinese knock offs. They don't recommend running The E-streets with a roller cam, and even then only with extremely low lift.

While I can not say anything negative about those Holley heads, I will say you made an excellent choice over the E-streets. Not to hijack your thread or anything, here is my results from those heads, particularly with the valvetrain. WARNING: Edelbrock E-Street Heads - Ford Mustang Forums : Corral.net Mustang Forum The casting of the E-streets are a bit rough; but the flow numbers are comparable with AFR 165's, TW 170cc, etc.

Im so glad i dident go with these.
