Is that the final grill? Like I know its just sitting there but I was curious..

I like the horizontal style grill myself.

I don't know if that'll be the actual grille, or a "backer material" behind some other facade like what you have posted.

I was debating (I have four options):

1. I duplicate that grille. I'll have to use 1/4" x 1" flat or rectangular (preferably) aluminum stock and have to figure a way to "stack" it vertically. My other concern is that I don't know if I like the way the lower horizontal span( the part right above the fog lights) of the upper grille divides the T shaped opening.
And My lower opening is no where near as wide as the eleanor grille.

2. The opening see you on my car is it. the contrast between the future white painted sheetmetal, and the blacked out grille material is what you get. the only thing I add is some running horse grille emblem from some year and place it off to the side like a 69 mach 1. maybe some sort of driving/fog light floating in the lower "mouth"

3. I add the horizontal bar(s) , fog lights, pony, and corral from a 2000 and up 6 cylinder car to #2. they would also "float"

4 I add the same from #3 but from a 67/68 to the grille.

but I just drew a sketch, and I like the horizontal bars the best so that will be probably how I'll go. Now I just gotta deal w/ the above mounting issues........................

Four months is a long time. You're giving me too much credit.

After 150.00 in materials, (and about 12 hours) the horizontal grille is out. I don't have the grille depth that a regular 68 has, so the grille was pushed all the way even w/ the front edge of the grille surround. It looked like a flat, slotted block of aluminum.
You can look at the grille pic, and see I don't even have room for the latch w/ the piece of grille material that's there. The grille surround tapers, and setting it back from the bottom front edge makes it end up behind the surround at the top. I didn't want to step the horizontal grille either, so now I have a whole bunch of 1/4" aluminum bars sitting in the corner.

I definitely did not consider the latch issue. Rock on with the current grille my friend.

This is an awesome build! It sucks that the horizontal bars wouldn’t workout though. After spending $150 on supplies, I would be tempted to remove the hood latch & go to a lift off style with pin clips. Can’t wait to see it finished.

Id be temped to put dzus fastners in and use the horizontal grill...

Thank you sir. And to everybody for that matter. Now that I'm having to do all of the bodywork to finish, I'm not sure how I feel about this build now.
The horizontal grille hid the depth of the surround. The surround will be painted white(like the rest of the car when I paint it) and the grille mesh will be blacked out w/ the exception of the running horse grille emblem mounted "69 mach 1 style" on the drivers side of that mesh. That contrast will give the front end the depth that the aluminum bars hid.

(I think the damn thing kind of resembles a new challenger as flat and stubby as it is already)

So contrast, in this case is a good thing.

I want the opening to be simple, like the Bullitt car where Mcqueen actually had them remove the running horse and corral from the grille on that car. There really wont be anything shiny on the car, so a billet grille will kinda conflict w/ that. Besides, regardless there was no way the bars would fit w/ the driving lights in the lower opening, and that was pretty much the death nail for that idea.

Well of course there is another scoop to put on the car........,

Hmmmmmmm.... I did pay 100.00 for that thing, AND I do need a 14" diameter 4" high space so the air cleaner will fit when the spacer is on,..AND I do kind of like the thing,...
I know! I'll take it off, seal up the front end, flip it over and I'll finally have a place to give that filthy dog we own a bath. Yeah,...thats the ticket!

Like the grille, the hood scoop is a like it or hate it part of the car. I'll agree it's a little "obnoxious". The fact that there is a completely different front end on the car is obnoxious. But it fits my smart ass to a tee. I said on the other thread that I think that once it's painted the same flat black color as the hood, it'll disappear.
