The Exhaust

It's cool having steel instead of Urethane. W/ steel you can do stuff that in urethane might crack, warp, or just plain look like hell.

W/ steel you can do crazy *****.

No, they're not drier vents.

See I saw these exhaust tips in my head. Kind of keeping w/ a F117 vectored Exhaust, And while I'm not worried about trying to disguise my heat signature like the stealth fighter does, You wont be able to see the hole that the exhaust comes out of because of the 45 degree slats that obscure the view angle. So disguised from view despite the fact that they're in plain sight = ( STEALTH)

And while I would never even attempt cutting a urethane bumper cover, W/ steel, I got no problem.

Then are you ready for......

GLASSPACKS!

Yeah I know, but before everybody goes ape***** on how stupid that is, There is a reason for them.

I want to quiet the exhaust down, not make it louder.

See there's already welded chambered mufflers on there. I am done w/ the days of loud assed exhaust and drone. I could've just put a turbo muffler on there, but the chambered mufflers, and the glasspacks work together as a muffler and resonator.

I know, there are 4 mufflers, but I don't have cats and I think another been there done that part of owning a V-8 mustang is the fact that they all sound the same,.....except this one.

Obviously there is no trunk floor. I'm gonna put in a fuel cell so that I can use the rear fuel fill. I also wanted to do the exhaust tips where I did, and the stock tank was in the way.

So that part is done. I can move along, and not have to worry about laying on my back and getting the piss burned out of me welding and grinding like what happened today.

I stand corrected. The thing is a work of art already as it sits. Keep the pics and progress coming man, I'm watching this one closely.

Thanks guys. That is one of my goals/fears.. It'd be great to finally get something I did even in the mag, much less the cover. But I'm afraid that the finish work might not be up to that standard. I'm gonna paint it myself, AND I'm probably gonna use... LACQUER:eek:

It's the small innovations like this that make the car so awesome! Please base/clear the car red with black hood and tail like you mentioned but with 69 mach 1 stripes down the side.

The flat hood and tail are defininite. The 69 mach 1 stripes are definite.
The color is between white or red for the rest.

I have been researching the lacquer thing for quite a while. As a matter of fact I OWN all of the product to paint it in red lacquer right now. (1 gal primer, 1 gal red, 1 gal clear) I also have 2 qts of white.

I know all of the arguments for not doing the car in lacquer. The part I can't get past is that all cars used to be painted in that formula. I've personally had 2 projects painted in lacquer back in the late 70's and early 80's that were flat out beautiful.
I'm 90% sure that I'm gonna (have to) paint it myself. The lacquer option appeals to me because of the quick dry time, infinite re-coat window, easy to fix, & product availability, (it's at every auto parts store) The reason for the white/ vs red is to hide what might not be flawless body prep.
I know I'll have to color sand, and buff the hell out of it. I would do that w/ any paint. I know I'll have to keep it out of the sun as much as possible, (but seriously, who doesn't garage their car (if they have a garage?)) I know that gas splashed on the paint will possibly hurt it, (fortunately the flat black product that surrounds the gas cap is a 2 part acrylic urethane or enamel IDK which) but the bumper and rear valance will be body color lacquer.

There is a pretty good chance that the "booth" will be another one of "Mikes' body shops" like the one in my you tube video, and it will get painted in the garage right below where I'm sitting in my living room. The smell w/ lacquer will disappear faster, and I don't/won't have to deal w/ the isocyanates that is in the clear in the base/clear as I only have the standard issue respirator.

Despite all of the above, I haven't ruled out a base clear option, and if I see a while bunch of horror stories revolving around this lacquer I'm planning on using, It'll make the choice that much easier to either accept or kill off.

Now,...you were saying?

More Body work/ The Tail

Well today I decided to start on the other quarter, determined to get it to a "roughed in" status. I also slathered some bondo on the finished drivers quarter.

mustangengineswap110.jpg

Obviously the gas filler is gone, I'm gonna use the rear fill and install a fuel cell below the trunk floor.

The pics never show enough detail but the quarter is pretty damn straight. I got one more smear, and it should be ready for primer.

I do have a question though Can I prime the bondo after its been sanded w/ 80 grit, or do I need to smooth it out w/ a finer grit first?

The Damn sun is always reflecting off the metal in the garage but what can you do ?
