Hard lesson on drag radials in the rain

I've always been lucky driving my car in the rain on drag radials, especially with my attitude, but after of a couple years of luck, last night bit me in the rear. Coming down the on ramp with was a swooping steep downhill ramp to the highway, I gave her a lil too much throttle before I straightened out. Ass end kicked out, tires got on top of the water, countersteering just threw the ass end around. Pretty much out of my hands. Guardrail to the offramp of the highway I came from was coming up, got a little to personal with it. Tried pedaling, but the wet roads and the drizzle, there was no chance of gettin her to try n grab n go. When you least expect something like that to happen, it does.

Just curious what you guys think the cost will be to repair? Looks like she needs to come back foward on a frame machine, door shuts a little funky, but I believe it's from the fender being pushed back. New hood, new headlight panel, new bumper support, and new fender looks to be in the works along with paint and new headlights. I'm guesstimating 2k. What do you guys think? Thanks.

Thats blows!! I was on ET Streets coming home from the drag strip and i literally ran into a monsoon. Pulled into Mcdonalds for 2 hrs waiting for rain to stop, then I though to myself, even if it stops the roads are still gonna be wet, so I proceeded to drive 30 mph all the way on the highway on 15 psi. Got pulled over, and the cop literally said "I think this is the first time ive ever pulled a 5.0 over for going TOO SLOW" lol. He was cool, I told him whats up and he followed me to my exit! A trooper non the less. But anyway totally sux dude. I guessing its gonna be more than 2k to do it right. Im guessing 3-3500

Hmm...what DR's? I had BFG's on my coupe and honestly they didn't do so bad IMO. Of course, i'm well used to driving on bald street tires anyways lol.

Oh and i did get pulled over for going too slow in my car...but that's another story lol.

I don't think there is frame damage there.
Believe it or not the nose and the fenders come off a fox pretty easy.
I'd take it apart myself and put junk yard parts on there.
I'd bet it can be done for $300-$500 in parts, then whatever the body shop charges you to paint it.

I'm with 2000xp8 start looking at the local yards. The first thing I would do is start stripping it to see what you got. for sure hood, bumper cover, fender extension. The fender might be fixable but hard to tell, the maybe..headlight bucket, core support damage, bumper impact brace and shock. you might be in pretty good shape..unbolt, paint. bolt back on. fingers crossed for ya.

Fixing to head out and take parts off. Gonna be fun lol.

To SSP coupe, I drove with DR's for 2 years w/o problems. But when I came off that on ramp I guess I gave a little too much throttle or I hit a water puddle or something, and the ass end just really snapped out. Totally wasn't ready for it.

I'm curious if there is any fender apron damage? The pics look like your hood still lines up fairly well. I'll bet you that you can get away as cheaply as the skunk and xp8 thing you can.

I got caught on the street in the rain twice in mach1's w/ drag slicks. 1 time on the interstate resulting in a scary assed perpendicular to the direction of traffic 4 wheel slide, and another less eventful 25mph shoulder creep home. Fortunately neither ended up as badly as yours did.

Sorry to hear (and see) about your bad luck though. Hopefully it'll not be as bad as you think:nice:

:notnice: Had this happen to me before, same scenario and everything, only had a set of bald t/a's on it. Managed to calm it down enough that it didn't eat guardrail, but I blew my tire off the bead hitting curb. Foxes have a mean swaggar when you don't have traction dood.

Well, tore her apart today and shes not gonna be that bad. Only problem I forsee is tweaking the driver fender end. Something got shifted there, and the door has a slight drag while shutting. Almost wondering if it got jarred loose and dropped down. Anyways, heres the carnage of the teardown.

I was driving through detroit last year in my 98gt. on 275/40/17 mt streets, raining like crazy, at about 3 am. I got to the outskirts, and they had just paved the road, it was stupid slick! I let off the gas and could feel it slide a bit, pushed in the clutch, and it was fine, then got back on it, and it came around with the quickness!! nothing got hit, but it was a fun ride..
