You know, the nasty crap that I guess is supposed to soundproof or some other bs. Mine is full of...gasp...road salt. Can't believe the previous owner would do that to me. driving my car in the friggin snow...much less rain!!

From what I've read, it helps keep the heat from the engine damaging the paint on the hood. I have no idea how true that is, but it's what I've seen others say. And i love my car too much to find out for myself lol.

I have heard the same thing about the paint, but I have not heard any cases of it actually happening. I have a Steeda hood with nothing on it and the paint has been fine. It is not painted underneath though, so don't take it off expecting it to look nice.

I dont think it would hurt anything to lose that piece as long as you live in a milder climate.
But I wouldnt remove it here since it gets to 105 degrees in the summer
and the heat really builds up when you cut the engine off. But then again
without that insulation there would be better air circulation under the hood
when driving. So it could be a plus....:nice:

It's just insulation. Lots of cars don't have it.

Yeah, I know, I was mostly worried that my car would be left with a big mess of glued on scraps of insulation if I tried to take it off. Fearing it wouldn't come off too easily.

Also, it's supposed to be insulating something so it does have a purpose. ie: noise, heat, etc.
