http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn121/CChazer/car.jpg (me and my car the day I bought it) In a month or so I'll be cleaning and detailing it and will probably get some new pictures.

Anyways some of my questions are what are some basic things that a weekend mechanic can do without fear of ruining a car? I can change oil, change a tire, jump start a car, but I'm definitely not very mechanically inclined and I'd like to do some small projects on the car to get my feet wet.

Another question is on a 1997 GT what would be the best revs to keep it at? I've been trying to shift/keep the car around 2000-2500 revs. What would be the best rev to shift at for speed? For takign care of the car?

I just want to make a car louder, what would I want to do? Change the muffler, straight pipe it?, is there anything I can just add on easily to make it louder?

Welcome to the forums!

First off I usually shift at around 1800-2300rpms if I want to save gas... But other than that you have to go by the sound of the engine to get an idea of where to shift at... These 4.6L engines can take a lot of abuse btw so dont worry about it as long as you arent redlining the car all the time...:p

Also about exhaust

If you just want sound you can swap out your stock mufflers for something else. If you want it really loud and gain hp I would suggest the mufflers and a new midpipe, also longtubes will help a lot too but no offense I dont think you should worry about that yet...

Heres my car with just the Flowmaster 40 series mufflers to get an idea..

I would go with a full catback exhaust. I went with SLP LM's after listening to alot of soundclips on youtube.

You can always go to an exhaust shop and just have some flowmaster mufflers welded in too. It's cheaper.

There's alot of projects you can do. Just figure out what part you want to buy and install, research how to install it and then go for it. You can do more than you think.

Thanks for all the advice guys. And there's a lto that I think I can do but once it comes time to do it I'm too afraid to because I might **** it all up. I'll start looking into new mufflers. My buddy told me just to get straight pipes on it, but I wasn't sure if that was the best idea.

No offense but, they can either sound good or bad depending on car. Have you ever hear a straight piped mustang in person with an H pipe?

Here is a clip or one, sounds better than flows IMO.

Non taken at all, I have just heard some 2v GT's with straight pipes and it didnt sound pretty at all... The vid you posted was nice though...

If I had to do it all over again I would have just bought the Magnaflow magnapack catback, bc I paid way to much for 2 flowmaster mufflers, but I was young and dumb *still am*...:D

My friend has a muffler shop so I can get what ever cat back/mufflers for a pretty good deal, but I still don't know what to pick either.

He had some delta 40's that a customer did not want so i got them put on the car for $100. But I want a full really cat-back. He said he can make a custom one for me or weld together a kit for $50 bucks i I don't want to use clamps.

The flows sound alright but I want a different setup, just don't know what.

Id recommend original 40 flowmaster instead of super 44's, just imo they sound better and deeper. But depends on what you like.

I would also reccomend an offroad H pipe with Mac flowpath catback, cant go wrong with that combo.
