I have a 99 V6 Mustang with 140,000 miles on it. My daddy has a heart attack every time I drive it to my boyfriends house which is about 35-40 miles from my house. There are no problems with the car AT ALL. The break light comes on sometimes but thats it. It runs amazing. But apparently 140,000 miles is too much to drive the damn car more than 10 miles?

So basically, is 140,000 miles good or bad? Should he get off my butt or what?

hi
cars can last years if there looked after 140k aint bad ... clean oil and regular services is the key and respect for it ... your dad prob just like his daughter is somthing more new so she isnt stranded somewhere one day is all i guess. but if you enjoy the car dont want a big payment every month and look after your car i dont see why 200k not out the question ..

it's not a bad thing

No, 140,000 miles is not a bad thing. I have a 2000 Mustang V6. I bought it brand new, and now I have 300,000 miles on it. Like he said, regular oil changes, fluid flushes once in a while, and maintenance makes it last. A few repairs like a new clutch if it is a manual and exhaust system repair are inevitable because of the design, but functionality and relaibility of these cars can be impressive.

It all depends on how well it has been maintained. If it has been maintained well and not abused, 140K is nothing to worry about. That's about what I have on my commuter car, which I drive almost 90 miles a day.

The brake light coming on is something to look into, though. Make sure it has enough fluid. Unless there are leaks in the system, that could indicate that the pads are getting worn, which is not that big of deals (brake pads are cheap).
