I'm asking this question for a lady at my office.

She has a 04' mustang v6 and she put a new alternator on it. (with the help of a guy at autozone, lol.)

She said it works fine, but after about a week, the gauges sweep all the way maxed out, then go to zero, then return to normal.

I checked the alternator and she is getting 14.4 volts while running. I didn't have much time to look at it (I was still on the clock). I'm a fox body guy and not used to the newer models, so any help is appreciated.

That almost sounds like a power on test, but it's not supposed to do that normally. Maybe try disconnecting the battery and let it sit for a few minutes and then reconnect it. The gauges work normally otherwise?
