Power Rack on UPR K Member Clerance Issues

Just went to put on my reman power steering rack on my new UPR K member.Realized the rack is rubbing up against the the motor mount portion of the K member on the passengers side. it wont allow the rack to fully seat on that side. Its on the peg but it is pushed out an 1/8 to a 1/4 inch more than the drivers side. Im wondering how critical it is. I hate to grind into the K member I dont know how much housing I can grind into on the rack before I break through. Im just wondering if it would affect the steering if I leave it as is.

If it's a reman rack, it's probably built from an original. Which means it should be no different.
I'd return the k member.

That's not necessarily true. First question is, did the original rack fit on this k-member?

I suspect that the problem is with the steering rack because I've owned several of these UPR k-members and haven't had any problems with the rack clearance.

I had a Flaming River hit the old style k-member and had to grind a tiny notch for clearance.

Good thing I have a QA1 then. :D

I completely agree with you. Several aftermarket companies use their own castings rather than the original. With cars that are 25+ years old, I'd imagine that they might be running out of cores...

Biggest thing is that in the picture, it looks like the collar is bigger than the OE rack.

The racks vary from brand to brand, I personally own a UPR that clears just fine with my flaming river. We also have one on my fathers 93 Cobra, oem rack...no problem.

If the UPR stuff was junk, I wouldnt sell them ;)

I will go shopping for a different rack. That sounds like the easiest plan. I never had the old rack on this K frame. I just figured while I had the thing ripped apart I would replace the rack and rebuild the pump. Maybee I screwed up. Nothing I do is ever easy.

I know, I know. I was just messing with you.

Funny thing is I had my K-member out earlier today since I have the engine out, and Matt blew two load sensors on his dyno... I figured now would be a good time to take everything out and clean and paint the engine bay...

Anywho, I have app. 80 acres between the rack and the frame. You can't see it in the picture, but after looking at the OP, they racks are mounted different. I wonder why UPR did it the way they did.

Yeah you do have a ton of room, my new UPR rack has even more since it doesnt have the motor mount pads :D....motor plates and a 32v.

Plum, are you using offset rack mounts, youll need them and it will give you some clearance.
