Fuel pump cuts off after running for a few mins

I just recently finished up my twin turbo car (94 gt), and after it runs for a minute or two, it dies. I had spark, so I watched the fuel pressure gauge, and sure enough, its at 39psi, then after a short time, it cuts right out, and stalls when it uses up the left over fuel in the rail. Then you cycle the key off/on and no prime. Right as the car stalls, the ccrm makes clicks in response (must be the fuel pump relay) but I changed it and it did not solve the issue. Im not sure if its sheer dumb luck, but if I give the tank a kick, it primes right after and fires up, only to stall again. All the parts are new, and the 255lph pump is literally an hour old...Im kind of scratching my head on this one. Im going to pull the tank to make sure my splice didn't go bad on the pump. Any other ideas? Ive checked all the fuses etc and nothing and they check out. The tank right now is at roughly 1/4 but my gauge is fairly loyal to the correct level, but maybe the fuel pumps getting hot and quitting??

I got a bad 255 pump a few yeas ago. It would work fine for a few minutes then just loose pressure. I hate having the pump in the tank but after doing it 4 times in one year I have gotten fairly quick at it. I have heard the only good 255 pumps are Walbro, my first one was a edelbrock but I'm using a Walbro now.

Check the connections and or hook the old pump up just to see if it runs longer then the new one.

Yeah, it sucks.... my pump is a Walbro too:shrug:. Hopefully its just something silly, but we will see. I checked out the inertia switch and its fine too. I will have the tank dropped tonight to have a look.

It sounds like a bad connection somewhere. Did you solder the lines going to the pump or use those chinzy wire clips that come with the new pump.

Well, after supper I worked up the effort to go and drop the tank. I got it down, pulled the pump out, and had to walk over to the light to give it the old stink eye once over (poorly lit garage). I started looking at the easy stuff, soldering checked out on the splice (i was worried, as this is the cars third fuel pump/shot at life). The hose looked good, and the clamps were good and tight, made sure the filter was on right, and the pump didnt ingest anything harmfull, and was just about to throw in the towel, when i noticed the connector wasn't seated in the terminal of the pump. At this point im even wondering how the hell the car ran....or better yet, how I missed that when i installed it. I must have just set it there breifly while checking the wiring for length, rubbing etc on assembly. Sheesh....some shady hobby mechanic I am.

Now if only I would have finished the exhaust before now, so i didn't wake the kids up if I started it after bedtime:(. Well, the saga continues until tommorow after work, lol

Horay! That's all the problem was. I probably cruised around for an hour last night just enjoying the car. If only it wasn't so pig rich...off to the dyno soon to tune her up next.

That's awesome, mine are never cheap fixes.

I did the same thing when I got mine out of storage this year. First time since I started storing it over winter that I had no problems with it. I ended up driving it to work that night and enjoyed just cruising in it so much that I never saw the shift light. One of the few times that that has happened since I owned it.
