Why is this gt40 intake so much?

This used to be the "HOT HOT" intake to get b/c it has good flow, extremely light, looks killer and it's a ford part for those who like to keep it in the family (I believe off a Lightning). I personally don't think it's worth that much, but it is sometimes hard to find...and they do have the coolant lines, the plaque, spacer and some of the hardware.

Personally I think they look killer! Those are my 2 cents :)

On eBay, GT40 tubular intakes routinely sell in the $450-500 range and the cover plates go for $150-200. They're including the coolant tube, thermostat housing and all the sensors. It's a lot, but not completely out of whack with what it would take to buy all of that stuff seperately. That said, it's not in the greatest of condition, cosmetically.

Found a nice one at a swap meet once. The guy had powder coated it gray w/ polished fins. He was asking $350, I should have bought it. See them in DFW usually between $400 and $500. Don't remember the last time I saw one with the cover plate.

This is nice to know. I bought my 89 coupe last year for $600 and it had one of these already. I guess thats a win for me for the first time ever. It had a spray paint job but I had it refinished and it currently sits atop the new motor.

I've seen the uppers alone sell for $400.

If i can ever find am upper intake listed alone on CL for a deal...I'll buy it. I love how they look, and they are lighter. So a plus in my book.

Until then, I love my cobra intake

I've always heard the real GT40 intakes are very expensive to produce and that's why they were always so expensive. This is why there are cast versions (Cobra/Explorer). The ultimate downfall is that they can't really be ported so their potential is very limited.

I actually have both, a GT40 Tubular and a Cobra intake. When I yank my engine to swap out my cam, roller rockers and some other fun stuff I'll have to make a decision which one to put on.

I can't believe how light the upper GT40 Tubular is! It really feels like nothing to me compared to other uppers.
