Couple weeks back, my good buddy dragged me into going to the Track with him (literally). and see what I can do with my 05 GT and his 87 GT.

Being the typical coward that I'm normally am, I was skeptic and refused but eventually when along with it.

Arrive and made a few runs at the Track ( 1/8 mile) and my 1st run was my best of the few that I ran (which isn't saying much but still).

This is the 1st run I did is what I ran against a 2001 Mustang GT Vert. 5 spd. Intake/exhaust.

01 GT VRT

R/T - .192
60' - 2.820
330 - 7.77
1/8 - 11.269
MPH - 66.71

05 GT (Me)

R/T - .052
60' - 2.11
330' - 5.78
1/8 - 8.773
MPH - 83.18

This is my 1st time ever at the Track, do you guys think that with the mods that I have listed, that my car is running about what its normal or slower for what has been done, even with the horrible R/T & 60"?

This is also on crappy street tires as well, which I already know DRs is the solution in this case, but I want to know what you guys think for a 1st timer and what I can improve on. thanks you guys. :)

What mods do you have done? That time is solidly in the 13s. Get your 60 foot down to 2.00 or better. That will really help your time. Imo your mph suggests a best of 8.5x in the 1/8th

reaction time doesn't affect ET. The 60' is not bad, but would be .3 or more quicker with some DRs.

Nice first pass. Drag Racing is a lot of fun huh? Especially with no fear of police intervention. :nice:

Thanks Sharad, I appreciated it, yeah you can say that I'm a lil hooked....ok I'am :D

But yeah, the 1/8 mile track here, which is closest to me (15 mins) is definitely not the best prep track we have so cars aren't hooking like they should.

And I was wheel hopping at the start and spinning in 2nd, as for the guy with the 01 GT, I really have no Idea about his time, as his car sure sounded alot louder than mine but I guess he was spinning just as bad or he mis-shift.

But I'm just wanted to see what my car is capable of and wondering if my Times are normal for whats done for my car, I would really like to land a 8.4 - 8.5 ET hopefully. :)

wheel hopping with the Steeda lowers? I'm betting you don't have an aftermarket upper control arm? If you add one, the wheel hop should be gone completely!

Anyway, if you're hoping for 8.40-50 (for now) you'll hit that with more practice using your current combo. Practice makes perfect! You'll just need to drop that 60' time into the 1.90s which is totally possible with your setup.

Right on the money, I don't have upper control arms...yet, I guess that should be the next thing I should do then. :D

On the street, my car doesn't wheel hop at all, just spins, but on the track, yeah it does, not badly but still noticeable.

As far as I'm launching, I just roll out gradually off the line instead of leaving around 1500 - 2000K rpms, as my car will just spin completely off the start.

I Know DRs will or should cure this problem, but the thing is my GT is my Daily driver and its not going to see alot track time, just every one and awhile run. so what kind of tires would be a good enough for the track but also still minded for the street.

All in all, If I could make my car get in the high 12 second range, I'll be happy. :)

nice

for a first timer that is pretty damn good!!!!! our times are about even right now my car has been running like crap lately though nice track times though thought i would drop in gives u props and say nice car lol..... btw practice makes perfect shifting like the other dude said :)

Thanks Alot you guys!, thats means alot to me really. It make me feel alot better about my driving :), Not that there anything wrong about my driving as far as I know, or was told lol.

My friend with the 87 Fox, first words to me after the run was. " I hate you, It took me 3 or 4 runs for my 9.3!" :D

But yeah, that's the next thing that I going to get, I don't know why I didn't in first place (being cheap) :D .

But is there anything that I could do suspension wise that will help the car launch better? Steeda STB & LCAs is my only suspension mod that I have right now.
Lowering springs /struts, Pan hard Bar, swaybars or a G-brace?

upper control arm and LCA relocation brackets should help.

Tires are a big difference though! I'm partial to DRs... but I did just put a set of 275/40-18 Nitto NT05s on my car and it launches a lot better than it did on the factory pirellis.
