Need some opinions

Hey, I have about $1700+ to spend and would like to get some ideas.

Either spend the money to get some parts for my 2004 mustang, which i'm in no hurry to finish.

or

Spend the money on the 5.0 to run 11's.

2004 mustang: New hood, meth injection, and valve cover breathers. ~$1300 (plus paint)

2012 mustang: JLT CAI/tuner. Boss intake, steeda LRCA with relocation brackets. ~$1600.

I'm leaning towards getting the stuff for the 12' but i dont know. I'm starting an actual job this summer so i will have more than enough money to end up finishing my 04' this winter, so i might hold off on the 04' parts now. But i Just want some opinions.

I'd also like to do steeda ultra lite lowering springs and an upper control arm for the 5.0 but thats another $400 or so dollars.

Maybe i don't even need to do the boss intake to meet my goals right now. I plan on either sticking with N/A or put on a small single turbo and run high 10's as a daily driver... so many options i hate it

Scratch the boss intake idea as you'll only gain power in the HIGH rpms and lose it midrange. It won't help your peak numbers by any means.

I happen to know where a jlt carbon fiber/tuner combo for sale is and its a good deal. If you are really interested in this; let me know as I personally know the guy. I know he was asking like 550 for the combo.

If you REALLY want to spend all of the money and run a good time if you swap your sticky tires over:
$550 for the JLT intake/programmer (I went from 380 to 406 with these mods)
$125 for some lower control arms
$300 for an o/r X (or H) pipe
$100-125 for some relocation brackets *get them welded in or you'll regret it*
With the rest left over you can pick up a nice set of Racestars with tires on them if you search the classifieds enough.

The best part about ALL of those parts is you can install them easily on jackstands (I have done so myself) so won't have to pay labor.

What gears are in the 2011?

What's the plan for each car?

I personally wouldn't do too much to my DD to ruin gas mileage and reliability. Stick with mods that may also help mpg: intake and exhaust. Also keep in mind a possible warranty issue with the 2012.

You're starting an actual job and have 2 mustangs and a 335i? :rlaugh:

Ugh the old fart in me says just save the money for a while then decide on something later...**** I'd mod the 335i instead to be honest...how much is a tune for those cars? I heard they haul buns like a bread truck when lightly modded.

I wanted to get the jlt/tuner first, then see how badly the car wheel hops and spins, then if it's really bad. I wanted to get the steeda Lower control arms and their relocation brackets and possibly an upper control arm. Yeah, i agree with scratching the boss intake idea, without a power adder or headers/cams etc it's kinda pointless. The 12' has 3.73's so it stays in the power band all of the time.. and im not worried too much about gas mileage. I barely beat on it so the mileage is good.

These parts are going to be all installed by me. I do all of the work myself on the cars, because other people or shops tend to screw you over big time.

I agree with the 4x4 look of the cars. It isnt TO bad with the brembo wheels but still, id like to spend ~$250 for a set of springs for it. Anyone know how hard the install is?

Haha the 335i is my Dad's and i used to drive that around last summer when my 04 was unoperational. I just put it in my sig because its a badass car. A chip is like $600-$1000 for it and it adds like 60+hp/trq. They respond VERY well to mods, eventually it'll get a chip.

The spring install is EASY on these cars. When we were getting my car ready for me to go race in this season of Forum Wars (YouTube - ‪TheForumWars.tv Ep. 7 stangnet.com VS my350z.com‬‏) we installed a set of K springs on the car. This is the guide that we used to get them on 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 Ford Racing Lowering Springs Install - LRS Blog - Read Here Shop Here

I change out my rear springs often now depending on what I plan on doing. I run a set of cobra jets in the rear for the track so it still transfers weight as when it was lowered 1.5" on all corners...it couldn't 60'

I still say you should mod it and surprise him. :p

wow, i hate how easy it is to swap out springs. I think i should pick up a set if they are that easy to install..

I was thinking:

JLT/Tuner
steeda lower rear control arms
steeda upper control arm
steeda ultra lite springs with those bumpstops
JLT oil seperator

then a chip for the BMW :nice:

I'd skip the upper control arm for now as you aren't going to really notice anything with it. I have a JPC upper control arm still sitting in the box brand new. The JLT/Tuner combo paired with the jlt oil seperator is a great idea.

Any real reason you are set on the steeda control arms/brackets? It can be had for cheaper with the same results.

It isn't hard to get these cars in the 11s as my sig proves ;)

Gotcha, so im just going to get the relocation brackets instead of the upper control arm. (forgot to put the brackets in the list up top).

I like steeda suspensions stuff but idk, they seem to make quality stuff and you get what you pay for.

I was looking at these:
Maximum Motorsports 2011 GT Aluminum Rear Lower Control Arms [MM5RLCA-52] : Lethal Performance, Performance parts for Ford Mustangs

or these, but i think these would be too overkill for the mods on it now.
Steeda 2011 GT Billet Rear Control Arms -w/Spherical Bearings [555-4406] : Lethal Performance, Performance parts for Ford Mustangs
