So there is a weird clicking noise coming from my dash. I clicks at idle and also clicks when I drive. The clicking stops when I open the door. The clicking sounds like somebody is clicking their mouse repeatedly non-stop and sounds like the clicking is coming from behind the steering wheel. Does anyone know what this problem may be?

What's the GEM?

No, I haven't done any recent electrical work

General Electronic Module?!

Some aftermarket throw-out bearings will start to rattle or tick, have had two new ones from Zoom and both of them started to squeak and tick.
Thought the noise was my input shaft bearing from my car's transmission, after the transmission was rebuilt the noise is still there. Thats my best guess.

What's the GEM?

Generic Electronic Module. Think of it as a computer for the body, analogous to the PCM being an engine computer. The GEM handles things like the one-touch driver's window, rear defog, remote keyless entry, interior lighting and so on.

The clicking might be a relay within the GEM toggling...

I have the same click. It my PATS shorting out. The power door locks would engage with every click (about 1 second intervals) and it drove me crazy so I removed the power door lock fuse. I was told that I would have to replace the alarm system to get rid of it.

Thanks Nightfire! After I keep off work, I will try to pull out my power locks fuse and see if the clicking stops
