Buying a salvaged mustang for parts? Can t45 fit 04?

I was thinking about buying a salvaged mustang for like 700 bucks and swaping in all the things not in my 2004 gt. I would love to have a 5 speed and have abs and even a extra rear axle to swap in some 2.73s for some fuel efficiency. What do you guys think?

Would be handy to know the MY of the donor.

OBTW, the T45 will bolt up. But....depending upon the MY of the donor will determine if there are any transmission speed sensor issues.

The PCM from a 96-98 will not work in a 99-04. There are way too many wiring/design changes for this to be practical.

Using an automatic PCM in a manual application will require some re-programming for no check engine light.

Doing an auto to manual swap using a 96-98 T45 as a donor would require a new manual transmission harness from a 99-04. In addition, the tail shaft needs to be swapped to an OSS sensor with the correct number of teeth.

However, the # of OSS teeth can be corrected with a PCM program change.

An extended range Speedcal will convert an OSS to VSS (not OSS to VSS). So a SpeedCal does not work for your application.

I have read other posts of small companies making a device to convert VSS to OSS. If this is the route you would like to go, do your homework.

If the donor were a 99-04, most of these difficulties would go away (except for the # of OSS teeth).

Thanks soo much for all the help!

I was planning on swapping the computer when I do the tranny swap but I have no abs. Would the light just be on until I add the abs a little bit later. When i do the swap are the dashes the same? I dont see a manual needing an overdrive light haha. The computer swap would fix the oss problem correct? I may just put the tranny in and a weekend later do the full computer swap just to make sure everything is peachy with the swap!

Let us know how the dash swap from a 96-98 works in a 99-04. It will make a good thread. IMO, this entire project would make a great thread.

I'm not sure that I fully understand the ABS questions. You are aware that ABS is more than the PCM? For example wheel sensors, tone rings, ABS contoller, wiring, and electrical.

ABS is an option. As an option, there are ways to turn it off. Otherwise, Ford couldn't deal with the different configurations of cars and features.

Oh I am going to buy a new edge salvage car for sure, so no dash swap with a old sn95, I am trying to avoid that at all costs cause that means switching to vss.

I meant to say I am doing the computer swap from the new edge donor car because I eventually want to swap in abs because my car doesn't come with it. I know that I will need to take all the sensors and wiring and a whole different cylinder.

I will definitely be doing a writeup with tons of pictures because I haven't found a good one for either of the swaps
