Hey guys,

I just bought a 93 2.3 N/A (Automatic) with 71k on it. Buttt, It has some flaws.

One thing I'm concerned about is the AC compressor. The pump was disconnected and I decided to take a look. I turned the pump and it would turn about 3/4 inch and get stuck, then I'd have to turn harder and it would break loose for another inch and stick again. Do you think the bearing is out on it? or the pistons inside the pump destroyed? I really don't want to buy a brand new compressor for 200 bucks haha. A bearing kit is only like 20 bucks, but I don't like throwing my money into the dark.

i could just as easy buy a used pump, but then I have to discharge refridgerant and evacuate oil, put in new refridgerant and oil, and hope to god my lines dont snap in the process.

Anyone have good experience in AC systems around here? I know its an odd question, but theres still people who rebuild them when the cost is so high for new.

Thanks!

when you turned it, are you talking about the actual clutched part or the outer surface (the part the belt rides in). The pulley where the belt rides should turn fairly free - well might be a little rough if it hasn't been driven for some time - but should turn freely. the clutched area should have resistence similiar to what you describe. Only thing to tell you is to throw a belt on it and see if it works or what it does or doesn't do.

Hey,

Sorry I completely forgot I posted this. I took another look at it. I think the entire pulley is destroyede. The friction plate for the clutch can move about half an inch in any direction I put it, and the pulley doesn't turn free at all. So I think I just need to find a used one around here.

Do the pumps from the 2.3 ranger work on these or the 5.o on the foxes? A 2.3 mustang is a very rare thing in this town haha.

Thanks!

i do know that the compressors clutch and pulley assembley for the fox body 5.0 is the same - as i robbed that from my friends compressor he pulled off his 5.0 when he made it strictly race - and I'm fairly certain the compressors looked the same. as for the ranger compressor - can't say for sure - but one would think that the late 80's and early 90's that they would use the same compressor but then again....

I called up some local ford dealers around her, one was closed, one told me he wasnt wasting his time looking up my information, and the other one checked everything. If you ever make it to Des Moines, Gabus Ford has always been helpful, Dewey is a joke.

Anyways, the Motorcraft PO is F0ZZ-19703-A for the 93 Mustang (I presume 90-93). He cross checked it with the 5.0, 2.3 Ranger, and the Tempo of the same yaer, all are different part numbers.

I guess it's on the hunt for a 2.3 Danger Ranger! Haha.

Just thought I'd share the info.
