Hi! Im sure this subject came up 10000 somewhere in this forum but i just registered and im not sure where to search for it. Ok- 2006 Mustang GT, 5 speed, cold air, pretty much stock. when i bought it, it had the stock mufflers, ohh so quite so i had them took off and straight pipes put thru with welded tips, That sounded good for about a week lol.. Way to loud all the time i wanted to drive it off a cliff!.. 3 week ago i bought Full S.S. MAC Axle backs put those on.. Sounded great all the time EXCEPT 1,600- 2,000 rpms.. Had the worse drone every.. Took those off, last week put stock mufflers from a 2007 GT500, Apparently they are the same as the gt stockers but with a chrome tip ( Had no idea ) Anyway they are real quite aswell.. Im sick of changing mufflers ( 3 times ). I want a muffler that is alittle louder then stock but with no drone.. I want the mellow tone but not piss off the neighbors. I heard corsa was great for no drone but i dont want to spend that kind of money.. Any suggestions?? Thanks yall :)

The only ones I personally know guarantee no drone are Stock or Corsa. Drone made me so crazy I spent the bucks and got the Corsa's. I have heard that the Pypes mid-muffler set up has no drone, but I have never ridden in a stang with those installed.

If Ford could put a louder muffler on the Mustang GT with no drone, they'd do it. It's a simple fact that if you want to increase sound, you must be prepared to accept some amount of drone. Some are worse than others. Corsa is one of the mufflers that has limited drone but the sound is also limited as well. Unfortunately, you need to continue to experiment until you find something that is as close to 'best of both worlds' as possible. We have been told by many customers that our SFM60S Street Pro Axleback has the least drone while maintaining a decent increase in sound.

Drone? What drone

I have Pypes Violators and yes they drone a bit but I knew that was gonna happen because there is no volume control for the mufflers. I don't understand I guess because drone don't matter for me, or I would have left the stockers on. I want loud and so there are compromises to be made. It's pretty tuff to have loud and quiet at the same time. If the drone thing is an issue then keep the stockers. I KNOW they don't drone. Besides, mufflers don't add any real HP.Try two Y-pipes before the rear axle with cutouts and turn downs. That has a volume control. OPEN=loud, CLOSED=not loud.
:nice:

All after market mufflers will have some drone to them. More sound equals more drone. I notice if I have my windows open I have no drone. I close the windows and I have drone around 2,000RPM but it doesn't bother me.

I went through several sets of mufflers when I was N/A also. I've had Borla, way too much drone. Mac's, like you drone city. I finally spent the money for Corsa, nice sound, no drone but they became very raspy when I removed the cats. I finally ended up with Zoomers. Ford Mustang GT 4.6/ Shelby GT500 5.4 Great sound quality and absolutely zero drone. They aren't cheap, about the same as Corsa but well worth the money.
