Hi there.

Stang owner for 5 years, plenty of self installed mods but now I have minor problems. Squealing noise coming from under car. This happens whilst driving but more noticable whilst parked. The noise goes away when clutch pedal is pressed in. Pedal feels a little stiff, almost creaky when pressed and released. I figure it is either a bad TO or pilot bearing so i am going to replace both along with clutch and flywheel. Why not. But I am annoyed that I dont know which one.

Question 1. Throwout, pilot or something else?

Question 2. Any idea in regards to labor rates for replacement of clutch etc?

Question 3. Aluminium or steel flywheel?

I hope to get my dream of Kenne Bell 2.1 later this year so I am looking at a stage 2 clutch. Would aluminuim flywheel drop off too much without the rotating mass with the blower fitted? Here are the parts I am looking to buy. Any suggestions are very greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Spec stage 2 clutch
Spec alum flywheel
FRPP Pilot bearing
FRPP TO Bearing
Clutch adjuster kit

First off, welcome to the site!

1. Probably the TOB, but I'd replace the TOB, pilot bearing, and clutch anyways since you need to remove the trans to get access to the TOB. May as well do it all at once.

2. Labor rates vary by region. I'd say it's likely going to cost between $300 and $700 depending on where you go.

3. I'd skip the aluminum flywheel. It's not a necessary expense especially if you plan on installing a KB. The thing I like about steel flywheels as opposed to aluminum ones is how much easier they are to drive on a daily basis. With the aluminum flywheel the reduction in inertia makes it more difficult to slip into gear from a stop. I'm sure its something you'd get used to, but when you'll likely be close to 400 RWHP with the KB, why bother with an aluminum f/w?

I was going to replace both bearings anyway. Always promised myself that if anything went wrong I would replace it with something better.

Best price so far is $414 in labor and that is from the local Ford dealership. Not had a bad experience with them yet and they always give me an oap discount because they like the car.

Just updating.

Squealing was due to bad TO bearing. Clutch is again smooth to engage and a LOT more grab with the Spec stage 2. Very happy with the setup I went with.

Cost $450 at the local Ford dealership for install and that was with Steeda/UPR adjustable cable and quadrant install too.

Now I have a minor grind noise in 4th gear at low load around 1400 rpm. With it being freshly installed and only 100 miles driven I am confident this will go away. Already starting to fade. Will be changing to Royal Purple fluid when I install the SC later this month.:nice:

Did you win the lottery or something? That's a lot of cash in one month...! Did you get tires yet? If not, consider putting 10-1/2" wheels out back cause with that KB you're going to need them.

Yeah I threw on some cheapo Eagle GT's. Someone threw a block of concrete at my car maybe 3 years ago and took a chunk bigger than a quarter out of my alloy. Basts! This is 4th set of tires since I bought the car. Going to get rims hopefully next year so they just need to last me till then.
One day I will put back on Bridgestone Potenza F1's again. They were the best tires by far. Sadly huge blow out on freeway whilst at Ford Nationals in 2008.

And no I didnt win the lottery. Looked at my poor stang all winter and started to save up some money from taxes etc to get him back on the road. Applied for a loan for supercharger, figured that if they approved me (even though loan app said "SUPERCHARGER":D) that I would pull the trigger. And so thats where I stand!
Now had I won the lottery there wouldnt be an engine in the car right now.......
