66 Mustang Conv/I6/Sprint 200/Auto- New carburetor

I bought a remanufactured carb (Autoline, C806A) to replace the Holley 1940 (tried rebuilding, but I broke the main well tube).

Photos are at: Pictures by steel3rivers - Photobucket

Photo 'DSCN3092' (old carb, Holley 1940) shows the Spark Control Valve screwed in (left side). (Other photos: 'DSCN2579', 'Holley 1940 carb- generic photo')

Photo 'IMAG0226' is the remanufactured carb that I bought. (Other photos: 'IMAG0220', 'IMAG0221', 'IMAG0224', 'IMAG0231').
The hole on the left doesn't have threads. Shouldn't the Spark Control Valve be screwed in here? Isn't it required on the carb for a 66 6cyl automatic with a Load-O-Matic distributor? The Autoline carb looks like the Autolite 1100, but I guess it's not the same if the Spark Control Valve can't be used. Any info is appreciated.

Your Holley 1940 with the Motorcraft name was an over the Ford Parts Counter carburetor that was the correct replacement for your original Autolite 1100. The replacement Autolite carburetor you show is for a 1968 and 1969 car without a load control distributor. You need to swap it for the correct 1100.

For a used one, you can still find them on eBay. Just be sure you get the one with two arms as the single arm is for stick shift cars. You also have to make sure you get the correct sized venturi. For a correct '66 with a C4 you are looking for carb number C5OZ-Z w/o CA emissions or C6OF-G with CA emissions. I got a remanufactured 1100 through Pony Carburetors (see their website). They also sell an all-new casting that provides an improved 1100 over the original. You can also send them your 1940 regardless of damage and they will repair and remanufacture it to better than new. If cash is tight, you could also just switch over to a '68 / '69 style distibutor and use the 1100 you have.
