Still searching for wheels.

When using 15" x 7" wheels the preferred backspace is 4.25".

How much of a problem is a 3.75" or 4.5" vs. the 4.25 (preferred)? (zero offset)

Tire size to be>> 215-60-15

TIA

215 60 15 3.75 15x7 - rubs fender lips for most people
215 60 15 4.25 15x7 - fits for most people
215 60 15 4.50 15x7 - contacts upper control arm for everyone with stock suspension

What about a 66 stock rear suspension with a 1959 9". I'm going to put the 215 60 15 4.25 15x7 on the front. Do you know the widest 60 series I can go on the rear with what backspacing? Would I be better off with a 7" or 8" wheel.

That 9 inch is the same width as stock.
You can look here for a large listing of what has worked for different folks.

I run 235 60 15 on 15x7 Magnum 500 4.25 backspacing rear with a Versailles rear end. I think this is as big as I can go.

The wheels that I'm looking at have a 4.125 backspacing. Do you think the extra 1/8" to the outside would cause your tire to rub? I know an 1/8" isn't much but sometimes small amounts can make a big difference.

Hey, Im new to the forum, but I have had a 235/60 15 on weld draglites 15x7 with 4.5 b/s for several years. The rear springs are the reverse eye type with QA1 adjustable shocks and I have had no issue with tire rubbing even with four people in the car going over bumps at speed. This was with a factory 8 in rearend and with an older style 9 in rearend.

Hey Ghostly,

How do you like those QA1's? I am about to order up a set for my 65 but havent heard any peoples thoughts on them. Sorry for the thread hijack!

I love them, front and rear, they are only the single adjustable type but well worth the money if you want to drive hard around corners to the track and then soften them for drag racing. I dropped 4 tenths in the sixty foot by finding where the car liked the shock setting...on those 235 radial t/a's. The car was able to actually transfer the weight instead of spinning. I had competition engineering 3 way adjustables up front and ripped them into two pieces...and they were a nuisance to adjust. When i put them on the front, i had to enlarge the bolt hole on the shock towers because the shock bolts that come with the QA1's are larger. I got lucky and found them half off at a Summit scratch and dent sale...hehe

I no longer have the 235 60 15 BFG TAs. Those tires should just be considered a fair radial tire. There is nothing performance about them. They have terrible traction and handling characteristics and if the road is wet, forget it.

I have 215 60 15 on all 4 corners now. I found some Yokohama YK520 at Discount Tire. They work so much better. They corner better and the car even rides better on the highway.
