did the conversion on my 68 using the stock power steering pump, everything went realy smooth with no problems. All i have to say is:nice::nice: the cars power steering is pretty stiff now, but nothing like non power steering. i havent gotten the real test.. THE FREEWAY... but the steering is very reponsive and feels great (just a little stiff) but this is what i wanted. when the car is off and u play with the steering wheel u can feel how much the slop is gone.. I should be taking it on the freeway this week sometime, and i will get back to ya... great investment for 700 bucks.. :flag:

Very cool. Keep us posted. I'm trying to decide between the borgeson and a rack and pinion conversion for my 67. Did you use your original column or go aftermarket? Also, did you do anything else to the front suspension?

Me too

For sure. I like the rack and pinion but can't deal with the cost(s).
The Borgenson seems like the right way to go.

So stock Stang pump, Borgenson box.
Did it come with hoses or did you make some up?:nice:

it comes with the hoses and everything to complete the job. I really like how you can feel the raod more in the steering wheel. Also as a side note: i think you have a better turning radiaus.

i was in the same boat..i had about 1400 saved up then decided that i can buy the borg unit and keep the other 700 bucks to put somewhere else. I used the stock column. Is your column in the 67 colaspable? The 68 column i didnt have to cut or anything, just give it a few taps on the end. I still havent had it on the freeway, hopefully tonight. (all the front suspension has been replaced a few years ago with stock rebuilt stuff)

Nope. Early 67 solid shaft. Figured on replacing it anyway. Not real crazy about having that 4+ foot shaft aimed at my chest should anything ever happen.:nono:

68dustin,
I'm still waitin' on a highway drive report. My car doesn't like to idle below 825 so the pump shouldn't be an issue for me. I'm just looking for an overall review of :nice: or :notnice: on the overall conversion. Was it worth the effort/$$$?
Thanx,
Gene

Ive owned my car 10 years and havent put 1000 miles on it mostly due to the cumbersome manual steering, I installed the borgeson steering this spring and now I want to drive the car everwhere I go. Its gone from being a tiring car to drive to a complete pleasure, great turning radius and a solid feel through the steering wheel. I thought the installation was a snap, this could possibly be the best money Ive spent on this car.

I'm glad I was directed to this thread. I'm suggesting a system like this for a customer. I'm not a fan of the stock PS and he wanted to add it. Nice to see it was a good choice. I will push for this addition more so ( he was considering a R&P ) now. Thanks.

Are any of you having trouble getting your steering to come back to center on its own? I have already bought the borgeson setup and was doing a little install research and ran int lots of people who said they couldn't get it to come back to center no matter how much positive caster they put into their alignment. It concerned me and I'm thinking of returning it.

Thanks in advance, Dan.
