i have been doing some research and got some good info but i wanted to ask this question anyways hoping for some help.
i bought 87 gt in 2009 and it has been smoking a little ever since i had it. it does not smoke at idle, start up or if i am driving it easy. it smokes when i start to get on it. i have followed behind the car with some one driving it and others have followed behind me, the smoke is a greyish white with just a little of a blue tint. when it does smoke it usually comes out in quick plume/cloud and then stops. i put an oil catch can in to see if that would help and i have changed the pcv valve and screen. the pcv helped just a little.
the car has an o/r h pipe with no tail pipe, just stops at the mufflers. i think the owner before me was in the engine as well because they installed roller rockers and when my mechanic did my timing chain there was a double chain and he said they came stock with just one. also, there is a lot of black soot in the muffler opening.
one last thing. i changed the plugs when i first got the car and one of the plugs had a cap on it. the car drives good and only loses a little oil and that might be because i drip some off the oil pan bolt.
sorry for such the lengthy post but i was hoping you guys could narrow down what is causing this smoke and how sserious it is. i am basically trying to decide if i should get some body work down or focus on the engine.
thanks for all the help!!!!!!
