I have functional doors now, my question is, what parts NEED to be changed when I start swapping parts from door to door (as in parts that wear out)?

And, what order do I remove the parts from the door, glass first I assume? Then what or does it kinda take care of itself as you take it apart.

These may sound like dumb questions, but I tried removing the vent window from one of the doors last week, and obviously something had to go first, cause its hung up in there pretty good now.

I would remove the window regulator (and replace them as well) first, then you have to remove the window stops (there should be one on the rear of the track and one on the front) then pull the glass up and out. After that you can remove the quarter window (the front window track comes out with the quarter window). Then you can take out the latch, handles, and hinges.

I would hang the new door without any guts in it first....its probably easier to assemble on the car too. This makes it easier to make adjustments and get the door lined up.

Those hinges have a backing plate that will be in the B pillar of the car (behind the kick panel) if you don't have a friend to hold them in place, they can be a pain in the butt to get your bolts started. I took a wadded rag and placed behind my plates to kind of hold them in place while I started the bolts to hang the door.

Get the new door lined up with the rear quarter body lines first...you can adjust the door at the hinges and at the striker. I would also rebuild the hinges while you're at it.

No I just got the no name repop

But everything I`ve bought from CJ Pony has been good quality, except for the Dynacorn Shelby R valance, its about 1/2 inch to short....which is why I didnt buy Dynacorn.

I`m hoping for the best. As far as bolting the doors on, I wasn`t going to remove the hinges from the car, just the doors. At least for the first fitting anyway. But thanks for the tip, I knew those backing plates moved around, but I didn`t know they moved THAT much, I`ll keep that in mind for sure, thanks.

I`m getting so close to paint, I`m primer and block sanding away now, it`s getting fun. I`m really excited about the project at this stage.

Yeah, those plates will fall off and fall down in the B pillar and you will have to fish them out with a magnet! It happend to me more than once. I would really suggest rebuilding the hinges, its super easy and super cheap and will make your door alignment more true.

Cool, your a big help Robb

I really appreciate it, I find myself in unknown waters alot being as this is my first car restoration, but guys like you and stangnet keep me moving along much better then I would otherwise...

Ah...doors just showed up on front porch, I gotta look.

Well heres what we got.

They are a little bit wavy in the door jamb area next to where the latch goes, but other then that, they look pretty good. Is it common for them to be wavy in the jambs? The skins look nice, the folds around the edges are clean, they look good other then the waves.

It's no problem, just take any of my advice at your own risk! As far as the waviness goes, well, there are bends made in those areas and it don't show, and it should be textured, so you will probably never really notice it. You will just have to see how well it lines up when you bolt it to the car. Here is a link to a vid that can help show how to line up the doors (also lots of other helpful vids on his site)

Ok, should I be miffed a little? Or glad I have new doors.

One door has the "beebee" sized bump in the chammel by the window, and both doors have the wrinkles in the door jambs, heres some pics, look forward to some input.

$471 delivered was hard to beat wasn`t it?

I`m just curious if this is normal or should i be mad, I`ve never ordered doors before.

FYI, their shipping is fast, I ordered Tuesday and got them today.

Sounds like were in the same boat. This is all new to me too. I'm replacing my rear quarters and need the doors on first to get the proper alignment. I am relieved seeing your pictures those don't look bad compared to some of the horror stories i've heard. I will take pictures of my doors when they show up and post on here.

If theres anything ive learned in the 4 cars and 2 tractors Ive built is that you get what you pay for. I wouldnt worry about those bb sized bumps, you can take 2 ball peen hammers and get that out quick and a little priming and sanding will never know it was there. All aftermarket body panels have their issues. They are very attractive because of the low price, but after you get a body shop to straighten out all the flaws, you could have just bought the good stuff to begin with. Those jambs are very wavy....mine arent that bad, if it bothers you send them back, CJPP is usually good about returns, but if it dont...then dont worry about it. I would try to see how well they line up, thats would be the deciding factor to me whether I kept them or not. I dented my new door beating on it with the palm of my hand trying to get it lined up...but its just one of those things...a little loving with a dolly and some coats of primer and you never know it happened.

Just finishing up paint on my 65' with the original Ford factory doors (not repos) and both had the same BB, so in some ways it is factory original. :) On my doors a hammer wasn't very useful (your trying to bend an inner structure too) so a little body filler was used to build up around it as it was a little much for just primer.

I consider that problem to be minor and I wouldn't be surprised if there are other places that also need a little TLC. Do as Robbz suggested and do a fit before condemning them as the next door may have other issues.

First thing I`m doing when I get car back is putting these doors on.

I wasn`t really condemning them, I`m just curious if this is normal, I think with a little TLC they`ll be fine, the waves in the door jambs don`t bother me, again I didn`t know if that was normal or not

I think I get my car back from the shop like Tuesday, first thing I`ll do is pull the fenders and try to bolt the doors up, see what happens. (Thanks Rob for the link)

I just gutted on old door I had laying around just to see how hard this was gonna be replacing the hardware in the new doors, there sure are alot of parts involved. I think I`ll start a new thread on replacing door shell guts when I start rebuilding them, it may help some fellow stangers down the road.

I bought an old pair of doors off craigs list

a few months ago for $100 (pair of fenders too). I thought at the time I might use them, but they are too far gone, they are however great pratice peices for learning things, like swapping hardware, learning to blocksand surved surfaces, stuff like that. I`m even going to use then as prep panels to learn to lay down primer and paint. They will be the first things redone in my shop, if they look cool, I may even hang them from the ceiling or something.....lol
