My 88 GT budget build...Project Garbage Pile

Last year I purchased a 92lx in Jasper Tn that was abused badly. The day I went to get it I saw another lx and a gt that was in about the same condition. Is it me or does anybody take care of their 87-93 cars in that part of Tennessee? I probably just happen to notice the 3 only rough cars in that area and happen to buy the other one.I did see a real nice 85 at the macdonalds in Trenton but that was in Georgia.lol .Its great you are saving that car and it looks as you are off to a good start. Also,I may have you a set of fender extensions I will give you but I'm not sure right now.

Also got started on putting the engine together, that came to a stand still real quick when I noticed Im missing the cam dowel pin and one of the head alignment dowels.

I did get the valve springs on though...

Well I forgot to document alot of the progress, but here's where I'm at now

And I know Im going to catch hell for switching to carb, but I have my reasons, and its temporary for right now. It will be back to EFI one day when funds allow me to.

Looks great and nice work in the engine assembly. Did you do anything else to the motor or just strip it down to the block/rotating assembly and then put everything back together?

Very cool build and thanks for sharing... can't wait to see her run. :nice:

KHibbs

KHibbs...I stripped everything off of the old shortblock that I needed and resued on a new to me shortblock that was untouched

fivespeedsteed...Rustoleum flat black is in the "To Do" list I just havent found the time

But thanks for all the complements guys...

Neat little project!

... One FYI for ya. If you are going to give her a spray bomb primer job, use some type of automotive etching primer... (think duplicolor or equivalent). If you use rustoleum and later on, you or someone else wants to paint the car, all the rustoleum will have to be stripped.

Goodluck to ya!

I would of kept the ground effects put on a cobra rear bumper and a saleen wing paint it vibrant red put cobra badging on it anbd go from there look at my profile and tell me u dont like the looks of it

First, no one asked you what you would have done if you were him. Second, you're saying every project car on here should be built exactly like yours? That's a pretty ridiculous statement to make.

LOL. I was slowly looking at YLWSTANGs pics and started looking at the 2nd pic without realizing there was a 3rd pic and I was thinking to my self " Wow that guy messed up bad, very bad. He had a real nice looking car". Then after a few minutes I noticed the last pic and have to say wow that looks great.

I woulda put a stalker bumper on it. A taller cowl hood and some euro tails. Cobra badges to finish the theme and some 20" wheels.
Looks like crap the way you did it.

:D
Lookin good man, seems like you got a better deal the more you do to it. I've got no problem with carbs, it'll be nice when you can get the thing out on the road. The spray bomb paint job is hit or miss, but you aren't out much money if you don't like the way it comes out and one solid color always looks better than mismatched. This is stuff you already know of course and just like you my to-do list never ended so it's not like there's a rush. Keep up the good work :nice:

Well Its finally all together and running. I about sold it a couple times but I decided to finish it and I'm glad I did.

I rigged a GM HEI module to power my Duraspark II distributor, and it works great
IMG_1525.jpg

I used a Holley return fuel pressure regulator with the stock fuel pump, and it also works great
IMG_1526.jpg

Im using a holley 4160 600 CFM and a lokar throttle cable bracket with the stock throttle cable...Im not a huge fan of using the stock cable, but its just temporary for right now
