Hey thanks for all the info. Ever heard of delta forces commandoo tuner? I was looking into it was wondering if you had heard. I have a stock 96 mustang gt. It has a 2003 gt motor in it. It has magnaflow etc. No heavy mods but I did wanna get a tuner. I do wish to get a new stang or cobra and do some heavier mods to it. So i want one that i can use on multiple cars and years etc. I was wondering which you guys would suggest.

What are your plans for the car? If it were me I'd buy a tuner from a local speedshop and have you car dyno tuned. That way if you add mods later (SC, heads, cams, headers, etc...) you can go back to the same tuner and just pay the hourly dyno fee to have the tune refined with your upgrades.

The 96 I would not have many mods just exhaust, cold air intake etc. I have had the car nearly 15 years and I just love the way it looks and wanna keep it pretty simple. It does have an 03 gt motor in it, but I have the original. The newer stang I would want to do about everything possible for an NA motor.

Is that commando tuner the sniper tuner? Ive heard lots of good things about sniper tunners.

Can you even use the same tuner for 2 different cars? I have been operating under the assumption that its 1 tuner for 1 car, not 1 tuner for 2 cars. If that was the case you would find groups of guys buying 1 tuner and passing it around. I can think of TONS of things to relate this to but I will leave it alone in the tech thread..

Perhaps Im wrong here....but don't you need to provide dyno-tuning personell with a hand-held tuner because that is, in fact, what they use to tune the car?

In other words, you take you car to have it dyno-tuned. The person doing the tuning dyno's the car and writes a tune for the car using the hand-held tuner that the customer provides?

Im so confused

Yeah but the problem is if you don't buy the handheld from the Dyno shop, they have to buy the software license which for SCT is $150. So you buy a tuner for $400, then pay hourly dyno time, AND have to pay another $150 so the shop can have the license.... f-that... I'd rather buy the handheld FROM the tuner for $400 because then they get the software license and you can always go back there for tunes in the future.

Do you have any experience tuning cars? The problem is unless you're experienced in tuning vehicles you run the risk of doing damage to your car. Many times mild/early detonation cannot be heard behind the wheel of the car.

I just went the SCT route. My situation is similar with having a new PI engine in the car. I bought a SCT and got a custom mail order tune and I was pretty impressed with how well the car responded with just a mail order tune.

Ah, I see

No but i love learning new things. and everyone had to start somewhere.

Why not look into an SCT hand-heldfrom American Muscle? BAMA Performance writes their tunes and you get free tunes for life. BAMA tunes are pretty darn good.

I think the only time you would get hit with a $150 fee like you describe is if you are going to a Non SCT using dyno shop and they are passing any fees from SCT onto you. I never had to pay anything other than the dyno and tuner's hourly time when going to an SCT using shop.

If you do not plan on adding cams, or a forced inductin. Do not waste your money on a dyno tune. You are going to spend atleast $650 on a tune. When you could buy the same tuner from American Muscle and have Bama write you a tune.

If you had done a PI head swap with cams, then yes I would say get it dyno tuned. But you just put a PI motor in it. Just go with a Bama tune.
