What is the best Tuner

on the SCT tuners i see there are 3 models. what are the big differences between the three? one is touch screen is that the only difference?

Between the live wire, SCT XCal3 and the Chip?

Livewire supposedly gives real time readings but I have heard that its a good thought, just doesn't work enough to justify the money. The hand held Xcal3 can read all the OBD codes your car can throw and can datalog as well. The chip is the least expensive and you can buy a different changer to change tunes on the fly, but the shop I go to won't handle chips. If the connection points for whatever reason don't touch and the tune vanishes for a little bit thats bad news. Chips also will have to be reburned for every mod you do, the tuner you just tell them what you did and they can write a new tune for free.

Best bet and most common is the hand held tuner. SCT FTW

I have an sct livewire and the real time has been quite accurate. I've been pretty happy with my unit.

And yet, SCT is still just a handheld. I like my TwEECer because it is a whole lot more powerful, but you should really know what you are doing to play with one.

I think the only time you would get hit with a $150 fee like you describe is if you are going to a Non SCT using dyno shop and they are passing any fees from SCT onto you. I never had to pay anything other than the dyno and tuner's hourly time when going to an SCT using shop.

Huh? No, sorry that is wrong. You can buy a handheld wherever you like and any other SCT dealer can tune with it. You don't have to buy a software license, that only comes in if you buy the Pro Racer Software to tune yourself.

all 3 do the same thing... just different ways

question shouldnt be what is the best tuner because they all work. but WHO is the best tuner. and even then its hard to say... you'll hear horror stories about all the big ones. because lets face it you cant make EVERYONE happy. my suggestion is call a bunch of them and talk to them. and then make your mind up on who you want to work with.

i love the n guage with the Lund tune. I also tried the SCT tuner and it was a pain to use. The n guage puts it to shame. The sct locked my car out a few times and the tuner I used was terrible ,car kept stalling. I wont mention their name but you can guess.
