Right off the bat I just want all to know I'm still searching but thus far haven't found what I'm looking for just yet... So I'll ask and see ... and if I find one via search I'll delete this one.

Now on to the question:

Is there any chance for FR500 rims to fit on a vintage '66 289 auto notch back? I wouldn't go any larger than 17" diameter wise but I'd want to go as wide as possible both in front and back.

Also, how does "backspace" relate to "offset" terminology wise? I have another car I've researched wheels for and I know all about that car's offset etc but there doesn't seem to be much talk about vintage mustang offset but tons about backspace.... Are the terms related at all? For instance how would the +48mm offset of my other car's rims relate to the '66s proper fit?

Thanks for any help... Still searching btw... :stig:

If you're going to be putting on those wheels. just get the standard backspaced ones for the 1999-2004 Mustangs and use a 1" wheel spacer all around. They should be fine then. depending on tire size you might have to roll the fender lips for clearance sake.

Try this for a pictorial showing backspace and offset.

BTW: this was the first website that came up on a quick Google search.

As you'll figure out after reading this site, to use the FR500 wheels, you'll need adapters. And you'll probably find they are kind of wide. Especially on the front, where an 8" wheel with a 235 is about as big as will fit, without mods.
Good luck with your search,
