Well last night I ran at the strip for the first time. Had a great time and made about twelve passes. I had a lot of trouble with spinning on street tires. I realized I'm in dire need of a aluminum driveshaft do to bad vibrations. Later on in the night I was running 14.4's consistently at 94-95 MPH. I don't know if that's good for my car or not:shrug:

C&L 76mm MAF
March Underdrives
MSD 6A box and coil
BBK offroad H-pipe
Flowmasters 40s
Timing advanced 16 degrees w/ 93 octane
3.73 gears

Strange Engineering adjustable shocks and struts
Maximum SFC's
Maximum XD RLCA's
FRPP B springs w/ poly iso's

all that matters was that you had a great time.

Those times and speeds are pretty normal times for a close to stock car. Sure looks good in the pics!

With a little more seat time you can shave a bit more time off.

You'll be shocked at the difference between the stock driveshaft and the FRPP one when you do the swap. Twice the size, half the weight.

An aluminum DS 'might' be good for a tenth.... if that. The vibration you speak of is NOT because you have a stock driveshaft (tons of Mustangs are running a stocker with no problems) it's because you have a stock driveshaft that either has bad U joints, the balance weights fell off or it's not indexed to the pinion properly. Hardly a reason to spend the money on an alum one.

...unless of course the stock one needs to be replaced. In which case....what possible reason could one have for replacing it with another steel one?

Those are some decent times. I ran a 14.79 my last trip out to the track a couple weeks ago. My car has the aluminum shaft, Taurus fan, underdrives, 3.55's, O/R H, and a flowmaster catback. I run stock timing because it knocks like crazy even on 93.

My best run was 14.473 at 94.577 MPH with 2.174 60-ft and a .647 reaction.

Ok so rule of thumb is for ever .01 is .02 tenths on top end...so if you knock that down to 2.0 you should run 14.27 you run 1.9 you should run 14.07 etc.etc. until the car well doesnt make anymore power meaning with your mph i say the best you can get out of it would be a 14.2ish area..if you had a higher mph then i would say even beter ET's...I ran my 87 GT vert on street tires i ran a 14.4 with a 2.0 60ft with a higher mph then yours plus i had no idea were my timing was at, 1st run out it was pinging so bad i had to let off and ran a 15.1 LOL....I had no timing lite at the track so i just backed it down so i had no idea what timing was:shrug:..best runs back to back was 14.4 with stock tires, stock air box with paper element, didnt change tire pressure..So im sure the car could have run 14.0 that day if i had a timing lite..Now i have the blower with 10 psi and meth injection didnt run it yet hopefully soon i will...:nice: Oh yeah i must have one fast AOD convertible then...lol...if im running the same or better times then the lighter LX's and Gt's

Not far off, if you work out the bugs in the car (vibrations, etc) and get some more seat time, you will shave some time off of that. I went 14.4@96 in my bone stock 91...2.73 gears and all...so yours should have just a little more in it with the 3.73's if you can get it to hook

I have a FRPP aluminum driveshaft on the way. I wouldn't mind to have a set of DR's, but the track is a hour and a half away so I don't see myself going more than twice a year.

This winter I'm pulling the motor to clean up the engine bay and fix a leaking oil pan. I don't have much of a budget, but at the time I'm at least putting on longtubes. Probably a overkill for a stock motor, but I'll have them for better heads later on plus they'll sound awesome.

love the wheels man, car looks awesome!

Thanks a lot, they look even better in person than pics.

How did your very first run go? My first time down the dragstrip was a complete disaster. lol My adrenaline was WAY up.

I would expect your trap speed to be a bit higher (more towards high 90's).

The first time down I felt hyper. I said I was going to take it easy the first time, but I ended up slammin' gears.

I thought my speed would have been higher too; before I went I was hoping to get in the high 13's. Something I discovered was my trac-lock is out and I was doing one-wheels-peels.

Those times aren't bad. The two easiest improvements would be stickier tires and more practice launching. With street tires, especially low profile street tires, if the tire spins, the run is blown. The best launch comes from raising your launch rpm, but slipping the clutch out of the hole to keep it from spinning. You can pull a 1.9X short time on regular radials, and DRs can drop that into the 1.7X range with your setup.

I don't know if you were doing a burnout before each run but it's not a good idea. All you need to do is stay out of the water and just get up there and get the tires to spin a rev or 2 and pull out of the burnout. You don't want smoke. The hotter the tires get the more slippery they get with radials. Drag radials and slicks you want them smoking. This is what has worked best for me. Also like sharad said about raising rpms and slipping the clutch works good. That was the way I pulled a 1.9 60ft on street tires with a stock motor and just a couple bolt ons. 13.6@99mph.. I was pretty happy with that.

Currently my car is a 13.30 car with 3.73s, longtubes, static timing at 30 degrees, a bad clutch setup, slicks and the usual little things. Car weighs 3240 with me and a full tank of gas in it. 60 foots in the 1.89-1.91 range. 13.31 @ 102
