My 89 GT has trick flow street heat heads and cam, 24lb injectors, custom MAF to match, FR high flow fuel pump, BBK SSI intake and cold air kit. (yes bbk is pita to install but it looks cool as hell and I think its a good intake and high pressure fuel rails. I can tell that the power is there but it really needs some tuning to bring it out and seems to be a fuel starving issue on the top end. I also want to put , say, 3.5 rear gears on and also a SC someday. But right now it runs pretty good and power is better than stock. It seems like ECU upgrade options are so broad and numerous its hard to know what to do. With future upgrades in mind. Having searched and read a bit on ECU upgrades its hard for a tuning novice to know what to get. If there is a good chip addition or aftermarket ECU that I could install myself and it would just work and kick ass? I just dont know cause when I read the specs I dont know what Im looking at. If I had to take it to a bigger city to have a good shop tune an aftermarket ECU so be it. But also want something that will work with future upgrades. Im looking for educated opinions on what I should get and / or get gears first then get new ECU or whatever. Since the stock ECU is not tunable, Im kinda lost cause this will be new experience. Any ideas, suggestions from those that were in a similar situation would be appreciated. Thanks!

I ran a somewhat similar set up for years without tuning it, and had no issues at any point in the rpm band. Did you change your throttle body out as well? Might check the timing, it should be advanced slightly over stock. Also check for computer codes. Maybe something little like plugs, plug wires, cap, or rotor that were not replaced, and needed to be. Apparently something is choking it at the top. Could try playing with fuel pressure to see what it might do (I never did), but it would be trial and error without a fuel air ratio reading.
For comparison, my combo was a 306 with TF TW heads, 73mm C&L MA, 65mm TB, Holley Intake, Cobra Crane Cam, 24# injectors, 155 lph fuel pump, 1 5/8 long tubes, 3" X pipe, 3" exhaust (was 2 1/2" for a while), and custom ram air with all factory sensors, computer, and smog equipment, and ran to the rev limiter wonderfully. Advanced the timing a little, and otherwise ran the computer untouched; the adaptibility Ford built into the 89-93 cars is amazing.

My fuel pump is FR 115 per min or something like that, looks like they dont make them anymore cause dont have on jegs or summit anymore. But my pressure is at 25lbs. Spose I could try adjusting the regulator up more. Also, I do have new cap/rotor, new 8.8 plug wires and new plugs. The timing is close to stock, its adjusted to where it idled the best, wo using a timing light to check, cant remember. It does run pretty good in the band but just seems like theres more there to bring out.

Thanks

EDIT: forgot to say I also have new 24lb injectors and 65mm throttle body. Ive been told if I ever get a SC that Id have to upgrade to 32lb injectors and 75mm throttle body? How about the ECU?

Anderson PMS and a wideband.

Tune it on the fly, it's piggyback. You can choose whether you want the PMS to completely take over and perform only your commanded inputs or if you want to want to put everything in range and allow the adaptive control of the EEC to do what it was designed to do.
