Hello all. I have rear 6x9 speakers and front round speakers in the kick panel. Problem is, you can only hear the high notes. Everything sounds great when the car is off (everything is working properly), but when its on, the engine drowns out the mids and lows, I cant turn the radio up because the hi's kill my ears. I'm looking for a good 6x9 that has no hi's. This would allow me to turn the radio up and not feel like a screwdriver is being forced into my ear. I'm not looking for an amp and all that jazz (been there done that), just a real good mid,low range 6x9. I have 3 way pioneers now. I disabled the tweeter... still wanna kill myself and cry when I turn the radio up cuz of the hi's. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Pioneer has always had good 6X9's with good bass bass responce. Make sure the speaker is mounted with no gaps around the mounting surface, that will cancel soundwaves. You can also get foam baffles(look like cups) that will increase the bass and midrange

Are the speakers properly in phase (+ to + & - to -)? Out of phase hookup can cause serious degradation/cancellation/loss of low frequencies, especially with 2 speakers mounted to the same panel. A quick check, without having to trace anything, would be to reverse the leads on one of the speakers and see if you get any satisfaction.

Are you sure the radio isn't hosed? I used to install car radios in the 70's, when the stuff wasn't near as good as today, and never experienced the too much high not enough bass you describe.

Does your car have all the sound deadener it's supposed to have? It should have a lot. With the sound deadener in place, you should be able to hear the bass better.

I had the same issue, but probably more so as I run side exhaust. I eventually installed a small sub woofer in the trunk and that pretty much took care of it.
