Im sure there is a thread somewhere about this but my question is will the sn95 axles fit in a fox rear housing. If so how wider wil it be and is there any issues with it? Thanks.
.....what's exactly is suposed to make them stonger? They're the same 1040 grade 28-spline carbon steel axles the stock 4-lug and 4-lug Mustang versions are? It took next to no effort for me to twist one off with my old 5.0L powered Ford Ranger back in the day....it it didn't even make that much power? If your wanting to do this for the 5 lug conversion, get the 2 LEFT side axles out of a ranger, plus they are stronger!
Did it back in the day on my 93 vert.
Anybody know the lengths? I picked up a set of 5 lug at a swap... whatya bet they're the long ones...Just to be clear, only 1994-1998 Sn95 axles will fit. 99-04 axles are longer and wont fit the 86-98 8.8 housing.
Grab the axles from a V6 or V8...same thing
The ones I used were 31 spline. thats what makes them stronger. its been over 15 years ago I done that, I dont remember what year they came out of. Another guy I know went 9's on ford ranger axles,so I dont know how you broke yours so easily.
Yes , you are right friend, I guess I should have clarified that!!sorry about that!Ahh, it that case, I agree. The '02-up FX4 31-spine axles are stonger, but those aren't the ones that everyone is talking about swapping over for the "budget" 5-lug swap. The ones being discussed (or at least that was my impression) are the standard 28-spline left side Ranger axles that are a direct swap into the stock Mustang diff. The 31-spline axles won't work unless you upgrade t0 a 31-spline differential as well.
I'm assuming your friend went 9's with the 31-spline units? Because if he did it with the 28's, he didn't do it for long. I twisted one off going spinning from gravel, onto pavement in my '85 4x4 with 31x10.5" tires. The stock 28-spline axles (Mustang, Ranger or otherwise) have never been known for being overly "tough".
I have a question for this one. I understand that the sn95 axle will fit a fox since they are all 8.8 rear ends. But everyone was talking 86-93 fox. My question is, is there a difference with a 85 fox? Will everything still fit?
