Supercharger Opinions!!!!

I have a 95 gt with gt40p heads and intake, with f303 cam. Im new to supercharger kits, ive been looking at a vortech v2 s-trim and was wondering how quiet they actually are?? i like the wining noise that some of them make. I see that the kits are around $3,100, and thats the same as a kenne bell kit. Im not sure whats the difference in performance between the 2kits, and which would be better?

whats all included in a kenne bell kit?? The website doesnt really say anything, and can the kit produce more than 6psi??

Any advice would be great!!!! Thanks

the kb is a great blower but for your setup that s trim will run circles around it specially with that cam you have. the v2 s trim does make some sound the kb sounds better, problem with the kb is the heat soak issues on the 5.0 but it still produces some great power and makes that 5.0 a torque monster, if it were me i would like to build a k/b motor next time, i love the way they look and they are so fun on the street

You are really comparing apples to oranges when you compare a roots-type blower (KB) with a centrifugal blower (Vortech).

The KB produces pretty much max boost immediately. So, the torque curve looks like a nice straight line. As soon as you get in the throttle, it is there.

The Vortech requires RPMs to make its boost. Lower RPMs equal lower boost. You get a torque line that steadily marches upward as you approach redline.

KB will produce lower peak numbers than a comparable Vortech. But, the peak will come much sooner in the RPMs.

if you have great traction the k/b will run better on the street and be much more fun, i will not say that the s trim will make more power but in a track situation it will perform better, i have seen street driven k/b cars deep in the 10s as i have with the s trim, to me for a street car i want that power and fun stop light to stop light, i want to feel that extra power, how often are you at the top of your rpm limit on the street? so let me tell you this,,, the s trim will be a better blower at the track,. the k/b will be better/more fun on the street ( with good traction faster) and the k/b will hold up longer before needing a rebuild, and the k/b will sound so much better.

I would definately go for the vortech. Going to make more power easier. Less load on the engnie, and a cooler charge. Much easier to install too.

i was always wondering if the k/b for the 5.0s had the whine like the 03 cobras do?? Im sure its not as loud but i read a while back that they didnt have a sound at all. Are both setups able to run the same amount of boost? And how much difference is there at the at the track??

thanks for the input, its gna be a hard choice for me. Only because they are around the same price. I know a few people with centrifigal superchargers but not anyone with a k/b. I dont think i'll go wrong either way.

92RED i was in you same shoes about 3 months ago. I ended up going with the KB. My second choice was gonna be procharger. I am pleased with my KB! I put mine on a pretty much stock motor and it made it a lot more fun to drive. My heads are holding me back for sure tho. I am planning on building a whole engine to put it back on. If ya do go KB go with the Flowzilla intake it is a few $s more but i have found that it helps with the heat soak and it will also be there if ya want more out of it down the road.

Personally, I go with the Vortech.. You can run more than twice the boost safely..

If you add 3.73's, 3.90's, or 4.10's, you can make the vortech a tire roaster at 1/2 throttle as well..

With the proper fuel system and mass air meter, you can spin the vortech to the stock blocks breaking point..

What more could you ask for???

Thanks RioRed, i have always liked kenne bell but havent really talked to anyone that has one. If i do get it, i would go with the flowzilla.

Turbo Gt, I wasnt sure about the s-trim only because i have seen more people with the t-trim. I didnt wanna buy something that i would be limited with, and that goes for both kits. So far i have a 255 intank, 24lb injectors, 3.73 gears, mccloed clutch.

The S-trim is capable of 680 horsepower..

Personally, I'd spend a little more money and try to find an V3 Si trim kit, which is the newest self contained blower..

I have 4.10's and am running 12 pounds of boost on an otherwise stock motor..

My 315/30/18 Falken Azenis (which are super sticky) don't stand a chance in first or second gear.

I'm a HUGE Twin screw blower fan, and would have a 3.4 Whipple in a heartbeat on a Shelby, but the NON-intercooled kit for the 5.0 just doesn't really compete with the Vortech.

Procharger makes an intercooled kit, but it's really expensive and not designed very well..

If I were to ever get rid of my Vortech, I'm going turbo all the way

I already went the turbo route on my last car. I just wanted to try something else this time, and i know it wont be as fast. Ill have to look around and see what kind of deals i can get, and then choose my kit. I dont like the fact that kenne bell isnt intercooled, but i dont plan on running much over 10 lbs of boost anyways.

A meth kit should help out a lil bit with the heat problem shouldnt it??

yes a meth kit will solve that problem on either blower. you can't go wrong with either blower, but you'll see 5 vortech cars for every 1 kenne bell car. there is a reason for that...

Quick post-pirating question here: Will the KB or the Vortech work under a stock hood? What else is necessary on a relatively stock motor to make one of these run well? I know a cam and heads will make it better, but if I want to start with stock cam and heads, what else will I need?

you are right about that, thats all i have ever seen was vortech cars. and thats why i was trying to be a lil different. I always figured it was because the kenne bell was too expensive or something.

i'm sure that is some of the reason but money isn't everything.

Husky, the vortech kit comes with everything you need really. i'd upgrade the injectors right away to 42#s and get a good tune, but the 24s/FMU will work fine on a stock motor. and the vortech will fit under a stock hood without question. can't say for the KB.

You see more Vortech blowers because it's simply a better design. Centrifugal compression is more efficient than the screw compression of a kb. It produces more boost at a lower temperature with less parasitic loss. Both blowers honestly cost about the same. The only more efficient engine compressor is an axial compressor.
