I went to buy a 2012 GT, they only had v6, BEFORE I test drove, I figured w/all positive stuff I've heard, just buy it & I'd be happy---I drove v6--I wasn't impressed w/v6.
The deal I 'm getting is this: I'm trading in my 2008 Honda accord(4cyl.5speedManual--30k miles)---they're giving me 15k for my Honda(I paid 21k new for Accord, 3 yrs. ago)--I felt 15k was very reasonable....so, with trade-in, I'm giving them $15,800. + 2008 Honda=$30,800(including TAX & Tags)..Thats the deal I'm gettin, IF I LIKE the GT(that includes $1000. discount). I'll find out in 4 hours(they open at 9 am)& they're gettin GT from another dealer(100 miles away).
I tried to have them lower price(I think invoice is 27,900)--BUT, w/my 15k trade in, they wouldn't go any lower(I dont think I blame them)I thought 15k was good for trade in...any comments??

You can always do better but how much do you want to beat your head against a wall? If you're happy then it was a great deal!!! I can't figure out why everyone gets hung up on getting a good deal personally. Depending on options, it looks like you did pretty good - comparatively with others on the site (some regional differences to take into consideration). Sounds like it was a pretty easy sale so I imaging the dealer made a little (esp with the trade) and if you're happy too, well then the world is full of rainbows :)

This is why you always want to negotiate the price on the new car and the trade separately. Sounds like a classic case of appearing to give you a great price for your trade in, but making it up on the new car. Can't say for sure that this is what is happening without more information on the deal, like sticker price of the new car, your state's sales tax, whether you pay sales tax on the whole new car, or just on the difference between the new car and the trade in Ohio, etc.

That being said, it does not seem like a bad deal, particularly if the GT has a few options. Just be aware that you may not actually be getting $15K for the Honda. The fact that they would not go lower on the new car based on your trade allowance suggests that they are lumping in part of what is normally discounted from the sticker on the new car into your trade.

bout hit the nail on the head there....this is just thinking, but to the dealer you may of been to wrapped up on how much you were going to get for your trade in before you would even plan on making a purchase. And the only one that needs to be happy with the deal you get is the one who's making the payment. With that said, how much below MSRP are you because if you're not below msrp it isn't the best deal (I was $4k below msrp on mine, but it was $38.5K msrp)

Ask if they will do it for that price on X plan.
You can join Mustang Club of America and get an X plan number in minutes.

I agree, this is what i did. Most important, you have to be willing to walk away if they don't give you a deal your comfortable with.
Go to Edmunds,Kelley and see what your car is worth, arm yourself with as much knowledge as you can get.Edmunds is also one site you can see what the invoice price is on cars, they have a lot of good info.
Mustang Club of America is $60 for membership and you get the xplan pricing, most all dealers accept it.With the xplan the dealer has to actually show you the invoice. The only haggling you will do is on trade but if you know the value, what is there to haggle about.
I walked out of 2 dealerships and was asked to leave at one  My trade was paid for,i knew what it was worth,my credit was stellar.I ended up getting a great deal, the salesman treated me with respect, didn't try and run my trade into the ground.I returned the respect and didn't rake him over the coals,i was happy,he was happy, the seas parted, the sun came out and it was a happy day.:flag:

Well fellow stangfolk----I'm proud owner of 2012 gt silver ROCKETRIDE--this 5.0 stang launches & I couldnt stop smiling & laughing as I drove it home(going south on 270 to S.hamilton in Col.OHIO)----I paid $15800.(cash)+2008Accord(4cyl.--30Kmiles-I paid 21k for this Honda, I feel 15k was just fine, I thought they'd offer me like 10-12k, BUT they gave me 15k.)---I could spend my time squabeling bout the 1k-2k I coulda saved, lifes too short & I dont frigen care, I'm happy as could be--besides I finally got a new dependable hotrod as dailydriver & a dodge 4x4 for winter, no car payment --I can get lowering springs, coldair intake, tuner thingy, etc...

If you have no options the invoice on your Mustang GT is going to be at least $28,400. And depending upon which mode of Accord you have they either gave you an extremely fair value on it or they stepped on their dicks (5 speed Accords are difficult to sell to 99% of the population). Either way, the dealer did not make a lot of money on you.

Edmunds invoices are at least $550 too low. They don't include the fuel cost or the adverstising assesment Ford includes.
And just to let you know the values that Kelly has on their consumer website are always higher than the ACTUAL Kelly Blue values they provide to dealers and banks.

Congrats on the car! :nice: So now you're driving it...does it really matter how many pennies better you could have done on the deal?

I agree w/you---5speedAccord gonna be hard to sell--its an EX(noLeather)Silver color, blackInterior, 4 cyl. 31kmiles--they gave me 15k for my Accord so I didnt argue much w/2012 mustang price.

My 2012 Stang is Silver, 3.73 gears, 6 speed, 5.0 GT. I HAD to own a hotrod BEFORE the world ends or economy colapses or I get sick & expire or WHO KNOWS but this was the way to go for me cause its FAST, dependable, & it actually looks like the 60's version(kind of)....

:D that made me laugh. congrats on your car, enjoy!

--Thankyou sir--I noticed you also have an ingot SILVER Stang--I tell ya, when ya get this Silver color in the sun, it really shines in a special way, glad I got this color...Originally, I was getting konaBlue, then Black, I'm glad I got silver 5.0...I just realized "5.0" is slang for "police"( in the hood, were I live, yes I have a garage)...

I gotta tell ya, even if my dealership called me to say "WE need $500. more from you" i'd probly pay em---that's how intoxicated I feel from this ride....we both know thats not gonna happen BUT I love this GT!
